Very nice photograph. I immediately thought of the phrase "I'll bet you didn't see that one coming". Nope, I didn't.

Yes, Jack, that works. Very interesting discovery. Hope you are successful in rearing it to adulthood.

Personally, I have never owned a gun, not even a BB gun, primarily for safety reasons. It's just too easy for someone to get seriously hurt or killed due to bad judgement, poor training, or just an accident. Not only did the guy have just one arm, he also had just one leg. Seems like the caretaker of the house should have intervened, unless the police ordered him out of the room. Hopefully they will sort out this mess & justice will prevail.
Colin - I have experienced being around mentally ill patients back in the mid 70s. I worked for a janitorial company that had a cleaning contract for a state run facility in Illinois. This particular unit was for the "criminally insane", people that had been charged with crimes & found insane. Very scary place, especially at night! Meal time was in a cafeteria with the patients & staff. Constantly found myself looking over my shoulder.

Here's a very sad story which has the whole city of Houston talking right now. It happened over this past weekend. This is the second officer involved shooting in this officer's 5 year employment with the police department. Not taking sides, but I wish people would think twice before they pull a trigger. Perhaps police would argue that they might end up dead unless they react quickly and that may be true. abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8826325Charlie Here's an earlier report with more details: abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8820624

Where in hell did this picture come from? I'm getting porno ads & popups when I opened it. Not pleased!

Westley - Welcome to Insectnet. Don't think I have ever met a professional fisherman! Evra is right about SE Arizona. Timing is especially crucial, but the rewards can be great. Do to my financial situation right now, I've been restricted to collecting close to home this year. After the drought that we had last year in Texas, the quantities were much lower this summer than in 2010. I suspect the same will be true next year for the midwest U.S. We've been getting adequate rainfall here this year, so maybe collecting will improve next year. If you ever get this far east (I live near Galveston), give me a shout.

Wingedwishes - That may have been the intent all along. Have an outrageous listing that will generate page views so people will see other items for sale. Good strategy! Other items seemed reasonably priced. Charlie

I've also seen one of these emerge from a dying cricket years ago when I lived in Illinois. I know what you mean about being creepy!

Jeff - I'm also sorry to hear about your cat, Mandy. Pets really become like family. My sister has had as many as eight cats at one time. She only has two left & one is 17 & fading from kidney & heart failure. She has spent a small fortune in vet bills, but since she never had children, they are close substitutes. I've always had a soft spot for strays that were abandoned by owners or lost. However, my wife is extremely phobic when it comes to any kind of animals. I think I've had three cats in the last 30 years, but my wife never let any of them come into the house. Needless to say, I never had one more than a year or two. I got into the habit of not naming them so it wouldn't hurt so much when they were gone.

JW - I was assuming you were inquiring about "LIVE" insects as well. Dead ones should be OK without any kind of permits or restrictions. I think Clark is right about private parties not having to belong to an institution. I think this is more for imported live exotics. I think you can get the info from the USDA website for the form that needs to be filled out for live natives.
