Has the Cites legislation now changed regarding the sale of P. hospiton? I raise this in the light of a new ebay listing for a pair of endemic "swallowtails from Corsica" by p.apollo from Czech Republic. Does this mean it is now not necessary to be put to the cost and secrecy of a trip to Corsica only to be poisoned by the dreadful foodplant?

Still protected under CITES + French regulation... Even if it is a common species, not endangered at all, in Corsica.
Some French insect associations are working to make the regulation change. But as you can imagine, those kind of changes take a lot of time.

It is protected and he should not be selling it. Note he doesn't use the proper name in case it pings up on their list of restricted species. It is damned expensive too!

In the last month we have had both chikae and hospiton on ebay, I just hope this does not alert the authorities to come down on all insect collecting like a ton of bricks.

Yes those people undermine the all insect trade ... and thus our passion.

Just because he's an advertiser in the classifieds doesn't mean he's a registered member of the Insectnet forum.

Possibly not a member, but the post should be deleted and the user warned/banned (in my opinion!)

Possibly not a member, but the post should be deleted and the user warned/banned (in my opinion!) Yes, I agree that Clark should not allow adverts in the classifieds for CITES appendix 1 species. It gives Insectnet and all insect collectors a bad name. Adam.

"How many posts and photos of alexandrae, chickae or appolo is here ?" Certainly, a lot! But among these posts, a lot of pictures of butterflies photographed in nature (living and non-captured) and many others captured or photographied before the implementation of CITES. In my case, I agree with those (such as Adam and Chris) who condemn the sale of butterflies listed on CITES (although it can be assumed that the CITES lists for butterflies - and not for cats or primates - have a fantastic relationship with reality).
