Can’t resist . When I was in high school fossil fuel was going to be gone by the 80’s and an ice age was eminent. Since then I can think of all the bad and alarmist false “ scientific “ studies and claims yet I was just in NYC and amazingly it is still not underwater. Have Greta tell climate doomsayer Barack Obama if he is so worried about rising sea levels he best put his 15 million dollar mansion on Martha’s Vineyard up on stilts. The liberal elite will still live just as they want while the working slob will foot the bills for these insane extreme policies. Yes of course man has had an impact on earth but change must come through gradual reasonable change driven by the market not socialist policies shoved down our throats. And while your at it tell Greta to insist China and India undertake these insane policies ( none of which even have any evidence they would even make any difference) and see how they respond . Ridiculous hyperventilation by climate extremists will put more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere ; control that and you’ve got something.

Also if you really want to learn to the other side of the story read the books by Dr. Patrick Micheals. Funny he is never quoted or interviewed by climate extremists . I always listen and read about both sides of the story ....do you?

I’ll think for myself. I’ll simply look at the Arctic ice pack pics from fifty years ago and then look at the pics of the current ice packs. Sure, volcanoes spew lots of CO2 gases.....and we can’t help that. Mankind spews lots of CO2 as well, but the difference is that we can choose to lower what we put out.

Absolutely agree, no denying in climate change, you can see it everywhere especially from professional entomologist like Michel Tarrier who has been monitoring habitats in Morocco for 35 years for example. Still I would wish not everybody loses his mind and panick. We seem to put ideology and socialist measures above everything here in Germany, and in the end the environment will get damaged even more. Science is science and not a policy maker, in science you have theories that are most probably true, but still it’s just a theory until you have the next better theory. Climate models are so complex that none of the scientists today can claim that they have a fully working model of our climate, far too many factors are in there where nobody knows what will happen. We need more scientists who work diligently and scientifically and less people screaming around: panick, be afraid, and then do dumb ###! Like in Germany shutting down all nuclear power plants and now we use coal instead, it’s a joke!

This goes back 30 or 40+ years or more. There was an astronomer in Europe who predicted that a massive Comet would hit the earth and destroy it by 1996.
Several weeks after making his prediction he traveled to the US to attended a meeting of some sort in Washington DC. While Jay Walking he was hit by a car and killed. The car was a Mercury Comet.

On September 20th 2019 an estimated 4+ million people, in about 164 countries around the globe, observed the start of a week long climate strike. During this week the now prominent Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is just one of many to attend the Climate Action Summit at the UN Head Quarters in New York. Today's words of Greta Thunberg:And the words of same, and the most respectable Sir David Attenborough and Jane Goodall:Protect. Restore. Fund.I do expect some trash comments from posting this, as some may find the uncomfortable truth offensive and the urge to deny well documented facts. Though some may feel themselves compelled to deny three decades of science, at any chance given, no one is by any way forced to take a stand on the issue of this thread. It is also ok to just watch, listen, read and learn. Jan Its possesed. We may need fire, lots of fire . Cult leader in the making. False idol if you wil...

I read these forums, but usually don't feel it is worth commenting because it has all been said. I had extra time while waiting to fly to Europe, so here is my comment (as a retired scientist who really understands science, its history and its operation):
There is a lot of science ignorance in the US and the rest of the world, so it is not surprising that lots of us still don’t believe in evolution, global warming, the safety of vaccines and more.
Science occasionally comes up with discoveries that conflict with our wishes or beliefs. A common answer is to assume the scientists are wrong.
Of course when enough time goes by most smart people come around to realizing science does get the answers. Stories that have come up in this forum several times like back in the 60’s and 70’s scientists thought we were going to have an ice age is just nonsense. This is a crude attempt to tell everyone- don’t trust science. Of course that ice age stuff is not true. If you think you remember that, your memory is not quite right.
As soon as the anti-global warming crowd started “reminding” us of how wrong scientists were back then, some real scientists went back and looked at that recent history. There were essentially no science publications suggesting that the next ice age was immanent. Compare that to the tens of thousands of global warming, peer-reviewed publications.
There were articles about nuclear winter, guessing about the future if we have a major nuclear war. There was a business consultant of science background (I think it might have been Iben Browning) who had an idea that economic collapses are occasionally driven by weather patterns (climate), and there are some good examples of this. He got a lot of press talking about future war and economic disasters when the next ice age starts. I don’t know if he was advising investors to act on that, but his ideas got a lot of press back then. None of this was science.
Science is about discovering stuff in data or by theory or simulation, and putting your reputation on the line by publishing it. Then you allow all your science friends and enemies to test what you saw and try to prove you are wrong.. Global warming and fossil fuels as the big problem is so far beyond this stage (and it was decades ago) that it is solid science. Ever known anything with this much science to be wrong? I guess not.
Even when Exxon hired really good scientists to prove it was all wrong, they couldn’t do it. The climate scientists ignored how great their career advance would be if they could tell their bosses that fossil fuels were ok. Exxon executives began strategic planning based on their certainty that Alaska oil will be more accessible when we warm up a little. Meanwhile Exxon continued to try to convince the public it was all BS. Delay delay delay. Their strategy has been quite effective.
So any of you that think there is any scientific doubt about global warming, are wrong. I personally don’t care at all. I’m getting old and am delighted that my science colleagues brought this climate disaster to our attention. The fact that the general populace chose to do nothing just gives me a chuckle. We scientists did our part. Rick

A couple questions, looking for the facts.
One video said 80% of insect species have been eliminated... Not sure about that. Since when?
As famously said "97% of scientists believe climate change is real." This however, does not mean they all believe it is caused by humanity or an unnatural occurrence. What about the ice age? The temperatures on the earth do fluctuate naturally to some extent.
Also a video

Rick, thanks for putting some sober reasoning and sanity to this. I for one appreciate it. In the end of the day, the physical evidence says it all. Jan I encourage you to read the books by Patrick Micheals. Rather than tell those of us who are true thinkers that all we hear from climate alarmists is gospel take a look at other well researched perspectives and then see how a true climatologist analyzes the subject. The problem is people like you have made up your mind and is exactly why ridiculous policies are being devised without any evidence of any benefit whatsoever. These policies would be unenforceable in most of the world and place much of the planet in an economic free fall. That’s what the facts show. Since I have come to this conclusion after studying both sides of the discussion I am labeled an evil denier. Let the market forces drive the move to cleaner energy not a socialist driven government mandate that will make the working person pay and suffer while those in charge never change.

Pollution and CO2 wouldn't be a problem if we didn't deforested our planet! This is the real problem! We need more trees, more forest, more jungle, if we could stop this and perhaps lower fossil fuel use ( which will runs out at some point anyway ) we will be fine at least for a while. No need to panic. There are natural cycles in everything. We are here on Earth only for a very short time and we will be eliminated whether we like it or not. It doesn't really matter what we will do, at one point all of us will be gone, no matter what...
Take a break, go out and enjoy the day...
Best wishes

“The problem is people like you have made up your mind and is exactly why ridiculous policies are being devised without any evidence of any benefit whatsoever.”
Sounds like someone else’s ‘mind is made up’ to me.
Incidentally.....skandinavisk did not, as I read it, state or suggest that we take climate alarmist views as gospel.
Ok, I’ll bite.......if you don’t see “any benefit whatsoever” with mankind reducing CO2 emissions, then perhaps your reading should go beyond the B.M. books. Go measure for yourself the atmospheric H2O levels rising, oceanic temperatures rising, oceanic water levels rising, increased algal blooms, etc. Btw........one can work to lower pollution wo being referred to as following climate alarmist gospel. Why can’t one simply desire to improve the way the planet is taken care of? There are differences of view among many of the ‘alarmists’ as well as the ‘evil deniers’. Finally....don’t forget how well the “market forces” led our country into the 2008 abyss. I, for one, am not such a believer in the market forces determining the fate of mankind. Ask those about to retire what they think of their 401K status w today’s market. Those ‘in charge’ who never change were put there by.......whom?
