the time I lived in Spain, I had once trouble with getting living beetles from Japan. One of these guys from customs told me in a very impolite way:not one insect will enter Spain! at the end I got them, but most dead...... Robert

A1 female sample(some females are black ,some are grey) these little bugs are probably the fastest flying Parides species ,the males are flying like Hesperides or even Sphingides, the hotter it is, the faster they fly. I am quiete sure that after DNA studies they would turn up as a good species and not ssp. of Parides bunichus Attachments:

same forest, but about 2km away from the f.platydesma population . f.harrisianus is the rarest form of them. f.oedippus is also very rar in the f.platydesma population, but at the second population about 70 % are f.oedippus. even that both "populations" are in the same forest, they seem to be quiete seperated thru roads , houses and gardens and dryer parts of forest .

I know that the last ones were collected even around 1975! by a dutch collector. A german collector(Ottfried Legler whos ´caribbean collection is now in a german Museum) bought 2 piece from him years ago on a show in Frankfurt. They had no locality data, but the dutch collector confirmed to the german collector that he has collected them himself) I know about another one from around 1970 in a friends collection and have visited that area several times without finding them, maybe I have just been always unlucky to find the exact place,.but the (coastal) forests in the hills still have huge trees and seem me to be a good habitat....... Adam I have been in N-Yunnan searching for them in Nujiang Valley and couldnt find them, maybe the altitude was to low till the places I could visit, I had to go back because it was not possible to pass by jeep the broken roads. The river in this valley leads to Tibet near the small town of Paksho , I found my first podalirius ever there, but this place is dry like a dessert(more then Qamdo) and I never could see more then 1-3 piece in a day.The collecting date beginning of may you got for Qamdo is almost impossible.I collectéd the first one arround 28 may near Qamdo and that was the only one till beginning of june. My italian friends found 1 around 60 km(am not sure anymore about how far) north of Zhongdian(N-Yunnan) on the mainroad leading to Tibet. They should be there along all river streams leading to Tibet at about 3000m(the same for Qamdo in Tibet) I went also many km the Yangtze River down and couldnt find it,but it has to be there .It was the first june week and to early ......maybe only few days and I had to return due to health problems with the altitude after not sleeping over 5 nights.
