I wouldn't say that an almost totally black butterfly looks incredibly, -there are so many much more stunning butterflies , but this small-sized newly(2007) described subspecies is hard to get(occurs at a remote mountainous area in Bahia -Pico des Almas- ) and also this specimen is in fine 'velvet' quality and very nice spread, -usual characteristics of John's specimens . Like Steve, I think that deep black color surrounded by snowy white is very impressive !

A1 female sample(some females are black ,some are grey) these little bugs are probably the fastest flying Parides species ,the males are flying like Hesperides or even Sphingides,the hotter it is, the faster they fly. I am quiete sure that after DNA studies they would turn up as a good species and not ssp. of Parides bunichus Attachments:
