I have a 'bucket list' of about 100 species of butterflies worldwide I'd like to add to my collection one day and the biggest number of them is Anaea
Memphis artacaena Memphis perenna Memphis cluvia Memphis lorna Memphis elina Memphis laertes(eribotes) Memphis laura (male and female) especially ssp caucana male with red wing edges Memphis pasibula Consul panariste jansoni Polygraphia suprema Zaretis callydrias Zaretis delassisei

Over the years I've had too many of them that were killed too early, resulting in improperly dried, soggy wings making them near impossible to set properly.
Or the opposite the specimens were killed with some chemical that made them stiff and wouldn't relax properly.
And also they are more prone to having abdomen fluid leaking and staining the wings
I much prefer acquiring an "A1 net caught" specimen even if it means it has a few flight scratches. At least the specimens relax normally and much less risk of bending the shoulders when setting.

sorry should have started a different thread for this .
Regarding the smaller blue Memphis species , it's really hard to get good specimens even if sold as A1. I had to buy several of the same species befiore getting decent ones!
One I'd really like to get is Memphis cluvia !

As you probably know my specimens end up in large Riker mounts , which I feel keeps them the safest and intact over many years. But it's really hard to take pictures across the glass. I didn't make a habit of taking pictures just off the setting board until recently. But I'll try to dig out the notable specimens. Also I haven't been that lucky with Anaea. The rare ones are ALWAYS expensive and i rarely get a lucky break in auctions, but here's a few. Memphis phantes .Largest blue species I've seen Consul excellens Not a perfect specimen but ok. Also the specimen was a bit "wet" and killed to early making setting difficult Memphis aureola .Was lucky to spot it on Ken Thorne's site for 15$.Perfect one too

Very nice specimen!
I sort of have a rule that I don't generally spend more than 100$ on a very rare butterfly. And for those that normally sell for 100$, I wait for an opportunity when it's 50$ or less (I got that S. chandra female I posted recently for 37$ when normally it goes for 150$)
I made a few exceptions over the years like a C. fourneriae for 350$
Of course I'll never have a few butterflies like P. homerus or butterflies of very high rarity level (Anaea suprema, Charaxes lydiae...) and price but overall I managed to get 99.8% of the specimens I wanted over the years.

what I have on the data is that the pale one I posted was caught in July and the one with red spots in June (2020)...the opposite of what it should be.
But I agree the wing shape suggests it's a different form of the male

It's a nice specimen and it's the normal form with no white bands.
Vietnam has so many cool species from Indo-china I've never seen offered before and I've expanded my collection while I see the same old stuff from other dealers. The diversity of species in some areas seems extremely high. Especially Nymphalids...Euthalia, Athyma, Lexias, Cynitia, Helcytra,Chitora...etc... Managed to get about 100 species I could not get otherwise
