seeing that reminded me of John, ' Panzerman ' who started this very popular thread. I have not seen John post for a very long time. I did enjoy seeing his specimens from his amazing Papilionidae collection and hope to see more soon. I believe Panzerman had one of the best collections of rare O. tithonus subspecies that I have seen and it would be nice to be able to view them again. Regards Peter. Didn't John give up collecting and sell his specimens to concentrate on his rare coin collection? I was always surprised, given the depth and sheer beauty of his collection, that John was so open that butterflies were "only" his second love after coins. Anyway...I've certainly seen some of his specimens for sale (identifiable from his distinctive yellow labels) on a couple of dealers websites... Simon

Anyone else noticed this post in the classifieds under the "missing trader" heading? "Is there anyone can contact this Peruvian dealer, Mr.Augusto R. Torres? He uses the following e-mail address: inkagrias@hotmail.com or forest-insect@hotmail.com I sent money to him and have been waiting for my parcel for a month, but I have received nothing. I sent e-mail many and many a time but currently I haven't received his reply. Please let me know if anyone can contact him. Many thanks, Naoki Shibata" Clark - surely it's time to ban Augusto once and for all..? He's clearly shown himself to be untrustworthy, unreliable and simply incapable of sending the specimens people have paid him for Simon PS - Surely this acts as a reminder (as if one were needed) that you should absolutely NEVER send money in advance to anyone unless you know they are 100% trustworthy, honest and reliable...

Congratulations Simon! I hope you enjoy the pictures. For now I only have these 30 pictures but there might be future updates where new sets of pictures can become unlocked. Last week I added a statistics update to the user section so that people can see how the website progresses. Currently there is 74 users and 4000 labels have been transcribed. The next point on the to-do list is to add more labels to the database. I have visited 3 more museums these last two weeks and I took pics of thousands of labels. Thanks, Claude. Thanks Claude, Looking forward to the new labels! I'll keep transcribing as I think it's a very worthwhile project Simon

PS - I know type locality cited in original description is "Shekou, westl. Liangtsou (Kansu), Honanpa, Ost-Nanshan" but can't find out whether this is the area of the Nantou peninsula or the town in Fujian??? Wrong part of China. Here's a map from Dietz showing where regulus comes from: View AttachmentAs you can see this is in the mountains between Gansu and Qinghai, W China. Adam. Thanks Adam Simon

Ok I drew a picture to get my point across. Every butterfly species has the same wing pattern elements. One of them is called the central symmetry system. I drew this system for 4 species, they look very different when compared to each other. In some species the symmetry system is colored inside, in others ( M. occitanica)) it has only an outer line (also known as Media I and Media II). Using this you can identify your specimen even tough the dorsal color elements may change and look odd. Claude, Many thanks again for your assistance and for going to the trouble of producing these excellent images! Simon
