I know this thread ran it's course a while ago but having just completed my first deal with Anton I felt compelled to write a little of my experience with him... ...my parcel arrived VERY quickly (around a week or so from Russia to the UK), EXTREMELY well packaged (among the best packaged papered specimens I've received from ANYONE) and the specimens were beautiful quality and exactly as described with good data. I don't know why stapleton has such a problem with him but I happily recommend Anton as a very good seller of quality material Simon

Hi All, In an attempt to try and "rationalise" my collection (and collecting) I have the specimens in the attached picture available free of charge to anyone who wants them or would find them useful additions to their collection...plus, I need the drawer space! ...I've had these for a while but as I'm concentrating on Papilionidae/Ornithoptera, Saturniidae, Brassolidae, Morphidae, UK species of all families I reckon I've got enough on my hands without trying to build up any sort of reasonable collection of these as well All have data and I'm happy to send them anywhere if anyone wants them. I'm confused...the title of the thread says the show is on June 14th but the actual advert says its on June 22nd... I assume its actually the 22nd (as I guess Paul knows when the show is seeing he's the organiser!) but can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance, Simon PS - Clark - IF it is the 22nd could you change the thread title? People may not be able to attend on 14th but may be free on 22nd...

I will refrain from posting more pics until I learn how to do it so people here and on the other side of the world can view natural poses without hanging like a bat to see them...lol. Hi Bill, Don't do that - I'm happy to hold my laptop upside down if it means seeing more of your collection! Simon

Hey Bill, Thanks for taking part in the experiment! The image of the daltonae appears on it's side to me (i.e. the specimens' wingtips point to the left when I view it, rather than pointing upwards) but the second image (of the mannana female) is fine Simon

Right way up in the uk and look very nice, I could really get into saturnidae, I've reared a few from purchased ova and they are great, but I don't have the room. You don't seem to get pestered by the anti collecting brigade when you're collecting moths but if you're swinging a net at a butterfly they'll hang you, in the uk at least. Rich I'm in the UK are they're upside down for me too... What browser are you using Rich? Simon

Simon, did your specimens come from Mike Howlett by any chance, I know he had some historical specimens in his collection and last I time I saw him he said he was selling off quite a few. Rich Hi Rich, Yup Simon PS - I hope to get around to taking some pictures this weekend...

Marcin - you certainly seem to obtain a lot of Ornithoptera rarities and some by well known field workers, such as Straatman - Archer etc. I have heard that the member John - Panzerman sold his collection, which I believe was one of the best ever, he had I believe a series of Straatman bred alexandrae from the 1960's and he had every Ornithoptera subspecies . If he has sold his collection, did you or any members here purchase some of his treasures. Hi Peter, My ex-Archer specimens (actually ex-Straatman and Toeante specimens but from Archer's collection) came from a collector here in the UK. I also have specimens from von Knotgen and Zeuner from the same collector. The Zeuner specimens are those he originally used as part of his studies on veination and have the scales removed from one pair of wings which certainly gives an "unusual" appearance but to me, because of the provenance and history, are as special as any A1 specimen. I'm busy for the next few days but will try and upload some pictures of the specimens as soon as I can. Simon PS - I believe Panzerman John had 2 pairs of alexandrae. I'm not sure if anyone on here bought individual specimens from John but I've seen quite a few of his specimens on sale from a couple of German dealers...

I have also some , not only leg. Archer , also leg.Straatman on those lebele . Marcin I remember Ted telling me that he got some specimens from Ray so that is highly likely. Bob Hi Marcin, Bob's right - I also have some specimens caught by other collectors which made their way into Ted Archer's collection and, therefore, bear his distinctive labels. For example, I have a pair of Ornithoptera goliath ssp. procus originally caught by Ray Straatman and a lovely pair of Ornithoptera croesus ssp. croesus caught by Ichwan Toeante (after whom croesus ssp. toeantei was named) which came from Ted Archer's collection and bear these labels. Bob is correct - it IS Ted Archer's writing. I have a number of Ornithoptera specimens in my collection ex-Archer's collection and they all have these very distinctive labels.

I know collectors who use a tiny amount of wood-glue after specimens come off the boards on the side of the thorax beneath the wings. The wings have always remained in place. Once the glue has dried, it is never seen. Peter. I've been told that glueing wings like this is a common technique among collectors in Japan...wasn't this mentioned in an older thread (I can't find the thread in question - maybe it was on the old forum).
