Importing bugs into the US can be very frustrating. I have a small parcel that has been stuck in San Francisco for weeks. All of the right paperwork is in order and the shipper is an experienced supplier. I have been unable to get an explanation or update from Fish and Wildlife.

It seems like there is a ton of scamming going on with Indonesian suppliers. I received an order from a supplier (Muhammad Djufri) who I had done business with for years with no problem. The quality of the Papilio ulysses and Papilio blumei was just awful. He refused to make it right with me. He also did the same thing to another dealer here in the US. Rule of thumb for sure is DO NOT send money in advance to these guys!

Sheesh - very frustrating. I have been hoping to find a good supplier in Thailand for a long time. I know someone is out there because I work with several dealers in other countries that offer material from Thailand. So many scammers and unreliable dealers out there that it is scary venturing out to give someone a try. Thanks for all the posts on this forum!

I'm glad I got to meet Clark at the Cal-Poly show a couple of years ago. I bought some of his photo cards which are awesome. Thank you so much for your dedication to the entomology hobby. Insectnet has been an incredibly valuable resource to serious collectors everywhere. Best wishes and congrats on your retirement!

Over, and over the same reports keep coming up about African suppliers taking our money and sending nothing. I quit sending advance payments to Africa years ago after learning the hard way. Thankfully there are honest distributors in other countries who are able to supply Goliathus, etc. It costs a little more but well worth it.

Your transaction does not have the classic signs of a legitimate buyer at the other end. She should have been embarrassed that payment had not been sent yet. I sure hope that you get your specimens back in good shape. Please let us know how it all turns out.

The situation with Alex Bic is a perfect example of why not to try bringing specimens into the US in your luggage. The USFWS slam dunked Alex for doing it. I have heard conflicting reports regarding whether or not he had the proper paperwork. I too, am hoping to attend the LA Bug Fair at some point just to see what it is all about.

Any pics available from the 2016 Cal Poly Fair. It is always nice to check out photos when we are not able to attend. Thanks in advance!

Dave will be at Cal Poly fair. I sent him an email regarding this thread and suggested he look into it. I have dealt with Dave for 40 years with excellent results. Hopefully this situation will be resolved.

Simon has a current ad on insectnet offering Papilio zalmoxis and assorted Euphaedra. He claims he will send without prior payment but then will tell you he is at the post office and does not have enough funds to ship. He is a scammer for sure. Don't waste your time with him.

Alex is a good supplier. Hopefully he has overcome his recent problem with USFWS and can continue on with his interest in bugs. We all know how tough it is to find the good suppliers out there, so the more of them the better for insect enthusiasts.
