Hey all,
A few weeks ago an 87yo acquaintance asked me to try to sell his birdwing collection because he will be moving to a retirement home soon. Since I am a beetle collector, I am not that familiar with lepidoptera. Therefore, I was wondering if some of you could tell me if all the speciesnames correspond to the specimens in the boxes.
And given that they are correct, what would you think would be a reasonable price for this collection? Are there any species that are more valuable? (My mind goes out to O. tithonus misresiana and O. paradise afrakensis.)
Most of the specimens are still in quite good shape, some have minor defects, mostly shriveled abdomen.
The specimens are placed in two 8-drawercabinets.
Box 2 : Trogonoptera trojana (Stgr. Palawan)
Trogonoptera brookiana albescens (Maleisie)
Trogonoptera brookiana brookiana Wallace (Borneo-Balla Bac Isl.) - enkel female
Box 3 : Ornithoptera priamus priamus (Ceram)
Ornithoptera priamus poseidon cronius
Box 4 : Ornithoptera priamus arruana Linne (Aru Islands)
Ornithoptera priamus admiralitatis Manus (N. Guinea)
Ornithoptera priamus euphorion (N. Queensland)
Box 5 : Ornithoptera priamus poseidon teucrus (Biak)
Ornithoptera priamus demophanes (N. Guinea)
Ornithoptera priamus hecuba (Kai Islands)
Box 6 : Ornithoptera croesus lydius (Halmaheira)
Ornithoptera rotschildi Kenrick (N. Guinea)
Box 7 : Ornithoptera priamus urvillanus
Male = Ornithoptera priamus urvillanus
Female = Ornithoptera priamus caelestis
Box 8 : Troides oblongomaculatus (Celebes)
Troides rhadamantus
Troides criton (Halmaheira)
Box 9 : Troides hypolytus suleansis (Sula Islands)
Troides hypolytus hypolytus (Ceram)
Troides aeacus thomsonii (Maleisie)
Box 10 : Troides helena maurus (Kanegau Islands)
Troides helena helena (Maleisie)
Troides helena cerberus (Maleisie)
Box 11: Male = Ornithoptera priamus caelestis
Female = Ornithoptera priamus teucrus ?
Box 12: Ornithoptera paradisea arfakensis
- Kotobu (Weyland Mts. West Irian N-Guinea, okt.nov.)
Ornithoptera tithonus misresiana
- Anggi Seen (Arfak Geb. West Irian N-Guinea, okt.-nov.)
Thanks in advance for your help!
Kind regards,
Bas
