Finally the warm days of spring are here in Santa Cruz County. At De Lavaga Park 5-1-2011 I saw an Umber Skipper by the parking lot. At the summit of the to the top of the world trail I caught a Spring Azure, missed a Swallowtail - saw a second one and saw two Dusky Wings chasing each other. Two small day flying moths caught on the creek trail. A few Common Ringlets also seen in sunny spots along the trails. This is a nice park for hiking or frisbee gulf or regular gulf and a nice view to enjoy at the end of the top of the world trail. There are lots of different gnats and flies as well as some interesting wasps and dragon, damsel flies in the park. If you look under logs you can find various ground beetles.

Could you please, if possible, use latin names ? There sure is people from outside the US that do enjoy reading your story ( like me ) but do lose a lot of time in order to search for every single name,... which not always brings the correct result, or have you ever tried to google "holy blue" ? I think you wouldn't be pleased either if I tell you that I saw last week a "Mauerfuchs", a "kleines Wiesenvögelchen", some "Landkärtchen", some "Aurorafalter" and the "Rapsweissling". Thx, Claude

I do agree !!! Please use latin, scientific names for an international understanding. I'm french and I don't tell here about "l'Argus de la sanguinaire" ( Eumedonia eumedon) ou de la "Mélitée des centaurées" ( Cinclidia phoebe). Using the binominal linnean latin name, one can see, at least, if he does know the species, from withch genus it belongs.

;D ;D This fellow don't mind about bioethanol ! So, I could write that I saw "l' Aurore (femelle) sur du colza". Would be better to write that it was Anthocharis cardamines female on rapeseed ( brassica napus) !
