Another ‘unique’ luna this spring

Well, I got a cool looking luna at right w the veination especially pronounced. I’ve got drawers of these and none have the veins so well marked like this. A regular appearing spring luna is at left for comparison. It’s not as special as the heavy purple marked one I got last year, but it’s interesting.

What I love about lunas is they all look the same, but they don't.

In the Finger Lakes area ours have little purple and no submarginal band. So when I caught one in KY in May that had purple, a submarginal band, and a purple stripe on the abdomen I was delighted.

I've also collected lunas with veination like the one in Bill's picture. Also gotten them with very prominent submarginal band. I've never seen one with a purple stripe on the abdomen.

Here’s a bunch of photos of lunas from NY. Note the low volume of that regal purple. The background green though is extremely variable.

They don’t come close in beauty to the specimen shown on the first post, but they are all unique.
