Hello everybody I used to breed butterflies and moths especially Acherontia Atropos that beautiful animal. Unfortunately my wife didn't enjoy my hobby... she felt disgusting the Acherontia worms (which are actually beautiful) and she felt pity for the adult moths that for some time I kept in net cages. Actually I used to release them in nature. Here in Northern Italy they are local insects, and the global warming made them more and more common in the North of this country (their perfect habitat used to be Sicily in the South). I especially enjoyed feeding them that's very nice, and also they are surprisingly strong and intelligent animals, they always search a way to escape from the cages and sometimes they succeed. Anyway, I don't want to upset my happy home, so now I just enjoy watching insects in nature I noticed there is plenty of useful information here

Hello Members. I am as a new member, Per from Denmark. I have been interested in and collected lepidoptera since 1974. Mostly my collection consists by national danish species, both macro- and micro-lepidoptera. I am specially active with driving light-traps in the night-time for moth-collection. Beside this I´m also interested in world- and tropical lepidoptera. Especially a passion for birdwing-butterflies, where I have bought different species and subspecies through ebay with the approved cites-import-permissions. I do also follow the interesting discussions here, about valid or not valid species, subspecies and so on. Kind Regards, Per.

Hey! I am a newbie to this! Totally fascinated by insects and have been for years. With a background in plant science and as an avid birder, I have a keen appreciation of the insect world and their importance as pollinators, food sources, plus beauty and design.
My particular interests (for now) are pretty broad. Love the Phasmids, Coleoptera, Odonata and especially the Saturniidae!

You are a new member here, please tell us more about you and your insect passion. My passion is micro and macro photography with insects as my favorite subjects. I search for insects everyday that weather permits and I photograph insects in the field in their natural environments and in my studio for highly magnified images of staged subjects using focus stacking techniques. I am interested in learning as much as I can about the fascinating miniature world that surrounds me.

Welcome kabutomushi and all other new members. Indeed this is a worldwide forum and as a result we use English as the language for all posts. I know this can be problematic for some non-native English speakers, and I can assure them that their input is very much appreciated, even if the language is not perfect. Adam.

Hi there,
I am Amanda and I am a researcher at the University of Melbourne. I am really interested in Lamprima stag beetles, Phalacrognathus muelleri, Christmas beetles and jewel beetles. At the moment, I am looking for information on Australia's stag beetles (the golden stag beetle, Lamprima aurata). I'm interested in whether different rearing conditions will affect the colour of adults. If anyone has info I would love to hear from you!
Thanks for having me, Amanda.

Hi All, I'm Nick and live in the Dominican Republic. Moved here recently, and as you might imagine, I frequently come across new critters. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to insect identification, but I'm glad to find an online community that can satisfy my ill-informed curiosity!! Appreciate the expertise of you all!

Hello everyone, I've recently found a small praying mantis in my garden. I watched it for maybe an hour. I while doing so I started doing some research online and found that, they are hardy insects and not all that hard to keep. I took it inside and made a enclose for it. I've since come to appreciate this species of insect. It has molted once and it seems to be doing fine so far

I'm Amanda and I'm a horticulture major in college. I'm taking an entomology class in the fall and have to amass a bug collection over the summer. I'm interested in preserving all species and lifecycles of bugs in UV resin. I got some hard curing resin that is activated by sunlight or blacklight that I've used to make Colorado Potato Beetle jewelery. I also like to write fiction, I keep common toads as pets and I'm working on an organic berry farm over the summer. I'm hoping to learn how to create a fantastic bug collection with advice from people on this site who have done what I wish to do.

I am Jim Williams from the Seattle, Washington area. Have been collecting for over 50 years but moved to Europe just after high school and gave my collection to the local school. Started collecting again several years ago. Used to raise Cecropea moths in Denver where i lived as a kid, as well as Morning Cloak and a few others. Mostly collect leps but if it moves I collect it. Will also trade. Looking at doing some breeding; have put together some equipment and plan on starting in earnest next year.

Hi, I'm John, originally from Seattle area, then Bay Area, now living in Berlin. I'm a journalist and fiction writer, currently working on a (fiction) project set in a (very slightly) future California where the decline in insect biodiversity has become more noticeable and problematic. I am no more than an amateur observer, and I hope to learn from you all here.

Hello everyone. My name is Jim and I've always been interested in insects etc. To this point 99% of my collecting has been with the camera and now as a retired senior citizen I hope to have time to learn the basics of preservation collecting. My home is in western Tennessee, U.S.A.

Hi all. My name is Liz, and I'm fairly new to the Entomology world. I work as a Naturalist, and therefore have to be a jack of all trades. I recently stepped into insect pinning and found it exceedingly enjoyable. The tedious details make me extremely happy. I love the scientific detail, and the thrill of trying to find specific insects to add to the collection. I'm currently pinning for the collection at work, but am beginning to establish my own collection at home. I don't know much about all of this yet, but I'm eager to learn, and eager to collect!
