Well, it's been a full year since I first landed in D. R. Congo. When I first arrived I never imagined finding myself so engrossed in collecting lepidoptera, but as I soon found it was a perfect way to take my mind off work and the various and many stresses of life in Bunia. My first contract term was for a single year, so I'm now back in Canada for the next number of months. Fortunately, we've just now received the green-light to prepare for our return to Africa on a long-term basis. So, once fundraising, visas, etc are in place we'll be heading back (hopefully by June 2015).
Anyways, that's a bit off topic for this post.
Before leaving, I managed to quickly snap photos of my collection... they're not great photos... and the humidity has tended to ruin the setting of many of the specimens I've kept... but this is where I'm at after a year. Much of this collection still needs to be identified. The specimens pinned to a piece of circular cardboard are being stored in large lidded plastic containers which have proven to keep the pesky cockroaches out. The display boxes aren't great... but it's what a friend could get built for $20.

So that's a year's worth of collecting... well not quite all of the collecting... those are the specimens I kept, and I have a tupperware container full of specimens that I've brought with me to Canada. (I'll be building pinning boards and setting those over the coming months.)
As always, I'm open to questions, comments and, especially, suggestions/advice.
