I've been told that these are paper fleas, but again corrected by others as they told me that these are paper mites. They are very tiny, smaller than 1mm. They seem to be transparent at first, but the ones that are congregated around my specimens are dark in color. And this is the proof that they are eating my specimens. They seem to be reproducing heavily. I've tried freezing my specimens together with all my drawers all at once for a month and this does kill them but they come back. Can anyone tell me how to eradicate these once and for good? Please help!

If you are in the US, buy a "Hot Shot No Pest strip", remove the strip from its plastic case and cut it into small pieces. A 1cm square will kill anything in a closed drawer for several months. Use gloves and don't touch the resin with bare hands for safety.

Awesome! By any chance does this product give off fumes toxic to people?

It is supposed to be used in the house, so I guess that the fumes in the air would be harmless to humans, especially if the origin of those fumes is inside closed drawers. I would think that if it is deemed safe in the US inside a home the fumes should be safe. However it does indeed contain poison, and I do recommend not touching it with bare hands.

You can always check on toxicity of products by looking at the Materials Specification Data Sheet, MSDS. Type "No-pest Strip MSDS" into a search engine. Google-search turns up a good MSDS first item. It tells you that there is no inhalation hazard, only a skin exposure potential hazard. I use these a lot, and they have a rather mild but detectable odor. Also I have a few insect cultures going (some beetles and some caterpillars). I never tested but I keep the cultures separated from the room with the No-Pest, just in case the low level of exposure might hurt the live insects. Rick

The material in No Pest Strips is Dichlorvos. The Licensed brand name is Vapona. Below is a link from my website for the MSDS sheet www.leptraps.com/VaponaMSDS.pdf

Use Bengal Roach Spray. That stuff kills everything. Use the regular version in the red can.
