Hi, is there an easy way how to pair Pieris brassicae in captivity? Oviposition should be easy on Brassica sp. I would like to try something with my nephews & nieces. Thanks Jonathan www.satyrinae.yolasite.com/ |

Is the goal specifically to pair them? then i can't help you much.
If you just want to rear them to show your nephews and nieces i'd suggest only catch a female. She will most likely be fertilized and lay eggs easily as u said.

I would find the pairing quite difficult as well especially if you do not provide a large space and plenty of nectar plants.
Most pieridae are difficult to pair and I have managed pairings by hand pairing a wild collected male colias crocea with a virgin female(bred).
With brassicae I would try anaestatising a female and place it a wide leaf with wings open where brassicae fly.

If the female you have was collected from the wild, she is probably already been mateded will not accept another mating.
