The Forum has reached its limit for file storage of image attachments. I am negotiating to increase our limit, but I'm going to have to pay some bucks for this. Proboards is no longer 'free' for forums of our size. If you would like to make a donation to the cause, please use the Tip Jar on InsectNet the home page.
In the meantime you can still embed your images if they are hosted somewhere on the web. Use BBC code.
UPDATE: I went ahead and purchased more storage space for our valuable image attachments. It is going to cost me $30.40 per month. Here are the specifics:
max file size per image: 1 MB max number of attachments per post: 10
In the previous version of this forum there were no such charges, but now they have monetized the site more. The days of 'free' forum services are gone for us, so try to be a little more conservative on how many images you attach here. I also have to pay $30/month for our hosted Classified ads, not to mention $60/month for our ad server, not to mention hosting costs for the entire site. Costs are creeping up,
Thank our advertisers for making all this possible.
I could use some more advertisers as my costs keep creeping up. Especially in the rotating ad zone that appears on each page of this forum. Contact me if you would like to get your banner to appear. Cost is very reasonable.
The Classifieds is an awesome program, and so is this forum. Our library of images in here is very valuable. Wouldn't you say? Help me keep this up by becoming an advertiser, or making a donation using the Tip Jar on the InsectNet home page.
Thanks all.

Perhaps that is also why many pages from the old version of the forum were not converted to the new one?
I think that perhaps it would be a good idea to see if it is possible to downsize all the old photos over a certain size, and set new photo size limits. With the large number of photos on the site that would probably save a significant amount of server space. I seem to remember that years ago I saw a forum somewhere that automatically downsized any oversize photos as they were uploaded to the forum. Is that possible to put in place here?
If you have to pay for additional server space bear in mind the speed at which that might be filled up (like that time you paid to remove the ads, but they were only gone for a very short few days). Maybe it is possible to set up a free photo sharing account somewhere online for members to post their photos to, and then just post a hyperlink to the photo in the relevant forum posts here?
Adam.

There are many free image hosting sites on the web. Photobucket.com, for one. I encourage our members to try using this method of posting pics here. It will keep our costs under control. No need to post a hyperlink to your hosted pics, use BBC code to embed them in your posts so they are visible. Thanks!

BBC code are the different commands that you can use to alter your text. For example [i][/i] writes something in italic. You can just click the buttons in the elaborate reply view and it will introduce the correct BBC code in your text.

What's BBC code for us non-geeks? Adam. BBC=Bulletin Board Code It's similar to HTML except you use square brackets instead. This is an embedded image from my other web site: It was made like this, but without the spaces in the IMG tags. Close those spaces to activate it. [ img ]http://cthompson.zenfolio.com/img/s3/v43/p401141978-2.jpg[ /img ] Enter the image URL between those tags and close up the spaces. Remember that an image URL DOES NOT end in .html or .htm. An image URL ends with the image file name, as in the sample above.

Ok, doesn't sound too difficult now it's been explained. Only problem personally is I don't have any photos online to share. One day, maybe.
Adam.

Get yourself a Sony Cybershot and start taking pictures! You'll get the hang of it.

Get yourself a Sony Cybershot and start taking pictures! You'll get the hang of it. Photography isn't the problem, it's the putting them online without directly uploading them to Insectnet bit. I'm sure it's not really that difficult, but the major issue when all's said and done is time (as ever). Adam.

Size must be limited to keep the page template intact. But you can post an image URL in the body of your ad if your image is hosted somewhere on the web (but it will not be 'clickable' for security reasons. Viewer must cut and paste the URL into their browser).
