VERY good news even if it is only a 2 year ban and only on some cultures (not on all of them).
Those pesticids have been proved to be the MAIN reason of bee deaths (and so must be very toxic for all insects including butterflies). Insect populations have been collapsing in the last decades.
The main problem is that some governments still try to fight against this ban (like the UK and Italy...).
And then the law has to be enforced... in France, some of them are already banned but are still used by some farmers.
Some says it will reduce Europe productivity but the disappearance of bees in Europe would be a total disaster.
+ in France (biggest user of pesticids in Europe...) farmers have 4x more cancers than the average population.
--> This is a HUGE scandal, many industrials and politicians should be jailed. They all know what happens but they like money from Monsanto/Bayer and votes from farmers...

At the moment here in the U.K many are trying to get a ban implemented. It is common knowledge now that these pesticides contribute to the honey bee population problems, but farmers are fighting to keep it. They are now trying to blackmail us by saying if they ban this pesticide they will go back to old ones that were more harmful.

I'd be more pleased if there were gradual bans in countries. Over the course of years, population counts would do more to link the consequences to insects. This would go from a link to an accepted scientific fact that would be hard for those who want the pesticides to argue against.
