Actually, they have a nice home here in my basement Rex, have always been one of my favorite papilionidae species, right up there with indra, ulysses, polyctor, dardanus... The red female....ssp. Uluguruana from Uluguruu Mts., Tanzania. John

Thierry: I heard from second hand sources that this nssp. was described by Turlin and Lequeux. It certainly is distinct from other rex ssp.

Turlin told a year ago that he thought this is not a true ssp and he supposed (like me, as he didn't know a such description) that a such name was created by "sellers" as a saling artefact. May be someone else intend to describe it or described it ? note that in this case, the name should be uluguruensis.

It seems to me that there are not many P. rex on the market the last time. Does anybody know a dealer?

Hannes: You are correct. Only papilio rex rex, rex mimeticus, rex commixtus are readily availiable. Sometimes one see ssp. abysinnicus. But ssp. regulana is rarely seen. Schultzei hardly ever, while franciscae is super rare. The new race from Uluguru Mts., are sometimes on market. John

Yes, but even mimeticus, commixtus and the nominate seem to be not many on the market these days. When I saw your drawer I was remembered that I have to fill some space in my P. rex drawer, but I couldn't find any stuff.
The ssp. schultzei and franciscae are indeed so rare, that even the scammers don't have any. ;D

Funny thing is that ssp. schultzei actually flies in Cameroun! I have had scammers from Cameroun reply to my ads looking for parnassius charltonius sakai, telling me that he caught 50 pairs of this ssp. in the jungle!!!!!!!! Not too BRIGHT.... John
