I have been asked to post the following announcement about an upcoming workshop on rearing Vanessa and Heliconiidae:
Please join us for Nigel Venters next specialty, online workshop for Raising Painted Lady and Long Wing Butterflies (aka Vanessa's and Heliconiidae Butterflies).
See www.butterflyboutique.net to sign up!
The workshop begins October 28 and is scheduled to run through November 5, but we always extend!
You will receive incredible amount of written, downloadable information in the classroom articles by Nigel Venters (and two "guest" authors), as well as over a week of online discussion for Nigel's instruction followed by in-depth Q & A sessions.
When you complete the workshop, you will be a Vanessa and Heliconiidae Expert!
This learning experience includes an online workshop and special, downloadable articles that provide an in-depth discussion of solving raising difficulties that farmers have experienced as well as teaching how to raise both of these species in high volume using the most efficient methods.
Much of the material is never seen before! Beautiful photos and detailed instructions on how to raise Painted Ladies, Red Admirals, Gulf Frits, Zebra Long Wings, the Postman.... much, much more!
The Painted Ladies will include PLs in North America south to Costa Rica; Central and South America; Australia and the Red Admirals.
Delicious photos of the Vanessa's around the world and how to distinguish one from another will be provided as well as in-depth information about host-plants for each....
PART I:
IDENTIFYING & UNDERSTANDING PAINTED LADIES AND RED ADMIRALS AROUND THE WORLD
The first article is over 20 pages! Chock full of fascinating information and a load of gorgeous photos that will help you have a new understanding of this species! Discussions include the North American, South American Painted Ladies, as well as the Hawaiian, Australian and New Zealanders!
PART II:
IDENTIFYING AND UNDERSTANDING THE LONG-WINGS OF THE AMERICAS
The second article and section of the workshop is Identifying and Understanding the Long-wings of the Americas. The Long-Wing article and workshop segment will include the Gulf Fritillary, Zebra Long-wings, Julias, the Postman and many more of the tropical species. There is a long section on breeding all these species in climates that would not normally allow overwintering, and will allow year-round breeding if required... Or just keeping breeding stock alive through cold winter ready to start off again in spring.
PART III:
RAISING THE PAINTED LADY AND LONG-WINGS
This third article and segment of the workshop provides a close look at breeding and raising butterflies from both of these families, as they share common breeding requirements and methods.
This section begins with the most efficient egg-laying setups, followed by detailed instruction for care at every stage through pupation and emergence. Although many of these species will accept a wide range of host-plants, many of these are actually marginal and are not the best to use in an efficient breeding operation.
Nigel instructs in detail the best way to breed these species trouble free, using the least amount of space and with the least amount of work! In short, you will raise a huge amount of healthy butterflies, consistently, in the smallest possible space!
PART IV:
RAISING HEALTHY PAINTED LADY LARVAE ON DIETS
The fourth article and last part of the workshop is Raising Healthy Painted Lady Larvae on Powdered (Artificial) Diets. This article provides in-depth information and photos for raising methods perfected over the years by Melanie McCarthy, Linda Rogers, Dean Kirkwood and other professional butterfly farmers.
IABES members take $10 off the regular price. Registrations are brisk!
Don't miss this great opportunity to learn with the master!
