Hi all, I am taking the family on vacation to Los Cabos next week. While they are in the pool I'm looking forward to heading out to flip some rocks. I'll be taking my camera gear and hope to find some good stuff to photograph. I've never been to Los Cabos. Does anyone have suggestions as to where to go, what to look for, etc? Any equipment you might suggest? I'll be looking for any interesting creepy crawlies... Cheers, EC www.macrocritters.wordpress.com

As soon as you get out of town, the countryside is undeveloped dessert. Even in town, if you are just turning rock, there will be plenty of places to hunt bugs. But be careful - the place has a bad reputation lately - so don't get too far off the beaten track.

Bad reputation in what way? I thought the Los Cabos area was one of the areas well out of the problem zones of Mexico...

In general most of Baja (of course except the border region) is very safe, especially when compared to the mainland. That part of the country is pretty sparsely populated and not central to the drug war. The closer you are to a tourist city the better the chance you have of running across robbers, but that's standard travel IQ.
I've spent some time collecting and camping in Baja, all without the tiniest problem - but granted I don't think I was within hours of a tourist hub.
