When I was in high school in the 60's I had the privilege of meeting the late Dr. Comstock, author of Butterflies of California, at his home in Del Mar, CA.
I am the center figure in the top photo.

As a much younger man back in 1980's I was fortunate enought to obtain an original copy of the Butterflies of California in near mint condition. I love his Riker Mount set plates...
I had always wondered what Dr. Comstock looked like. You were indeed fortunate to meet him.
The only truely famous Lep people I have met were Dr. Thomas Emmel and George Austin.
My sons and I had the pleasure of traveling with them to Rancho Grande in Rondonia, Brazil and to Taiwan a number of years ago while he was still conducting collecting trips with the Lepidopterist's Society...
You are very fortunate indeed to have mest and spent time with Dr. Comstock!
Best Regards,
Richard E. Howard
