My son and I went out last night to the county park we baited at last year with great success. However last night was a complete disappointment. Not a single moth at any of the trees we baited and hardly anything at our MV light. The only visitors to our bair were 2 flying squirrels.
I am wondering if the severely hot and dry summer has anything to do with this.

Sorry to hear about your lack of success. I have been struggling to collect around here too, though for pretty much the opposite reason. I keep reading about how so much of the US is in a horrible drought, but around here it has been a soggy mess. It rains four or five nights a week. Usually, this time of year we have triple digit temps on a regular basis and rain showers are few and far between, but this has been the mildest and wettest summer that I can remember. Last night and today actually feel more like fall than summer. I keep the light on, but not much comes out unless there has been no rain for at least 6 hours or so and all this rain seems to come in the late evening or early night.

Went out again last night with the same results. Not a single moth. I would at this time last year seen at least Copper Underwing (not a catocala), Zale lunata, C. amatrix, C. cara, C. ultronia, C. ilia.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? I am hoping with recent rain & upcoming cooler temperatures that in a couple of weeks my luck will change.

Here in middle Tennessee I have had similar results lately. The last three nights yielded nothing in my bait traps. All one can do is keep trying, or try something different.
