I notice that, in the classified adds, someone has posted a picture of a M. ugandensis with callipers, measuring 8.8cm. This measurement also includes a gap of around 14mm between the end of the callipers and the beetle's horn. So it is probably nearer 75mm long.
Perhaps he's either referring to a different specimen, or he's very optimistic!

I saw that too. Strange.
Up until now I have been blocking ads from Uganda because 99% of them go bad. But they keep on coming, so I'm starting to let a few of the better ones go up to see what happens. But everyone should use extreme caution with Ugandan dealers. They do not have a good track record in insect trading from my 11 years experience running the Classifieds. Sorry to say that but the numbers don't lie.

I've actually bought this specimen. It is 88mm in length. The measurements don't start on the calipers until a while down the shaft. the front tip of the beetle does start at 1mm. thanks pete

Good to know it's a genuine 88mm, big size for a great species.

That's interesting that it's already sold, as he sent me a price for it today as if it were still available (a price that I'm quite sure you would not have agreed to!!) I wish you luck......at least you didn't send money in advance - worst case is you don't get the specimen, but I hope you do!!

The people i buy from in uganda seem to always advertise the same beetles i have already purchased from them. Just be ware of african dealers. If buyers have already turned down the high asking price, maybe i got it cheaper. Ugandensis of this size will bring high end prices from collectors. As i've said, i must be one of the lucky ones as i have never had a problem with them. If they have offered you the specimen they were obviously trying to dupe you. Anyone reading this that has been offered the ugandensis, then don't buy it untill i confirm wether or not they have sent it to me. all the best pete
