People have started something in the last few months which has not been there before and I really want you to tell to let what you are doing go as soon as possible as it is annoying as hell.
What am I talking about? Yesterday I posted another classifieds add to sell some of my extra specimen that I do not need myself, what follows? Immediately some guy (V.B.C, I talk about you) sends me some email about an advertissement of his ebay auctions and his sincere apologies when I do not want to be on his email-LIST.
What is this? His email-list? When did I ask to be on that one? Since when does posting my email under a sales-add of mine imply that I want to be on anyones email newsletter?
The thing is that this guy is not the only one, I have like 5 people that felt so generous as to put me on their wonderful email-lists, but this case now was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I know that Clark can't do much about hidding the emails from anyones view as they are needed to reply to an add, but I do want to say again that email lists for whatever reasons that you did not ask to be part of are NOT COOL and I am not GONNA BUY YOUR STUFF ANYWAY SO LEAVE IT.
Thanks

Li Jingke's trend...
I agree with Thierry just block them. Personally when I have specimens from my collection for sale, I only email my friends and past customers.

On the contrary. I CAN hide the e-mails in the Classifieds by a simple flip of a switch. Doing that produces and e-mail form that allows you to contact the poster privately, as you would on a dating web site. There are varying opinions about this. The obvious advantage is privacy for the person posting an ad. The disadvantages are 1) it is more cumbersome to communicate and 2) if you are a buyer you cannot search the seller's e-mail to see if there is any information available on him. You do not know the e-mail of the seller until they reply to your message.
Anybody want to chime in with an opinion? I have an open mind on this. I'll hide the Classifieds e-mail if a that is the prevailing opinion. Perhaps I should start an opinion poll.

I think that seeing an advertiser's e-mail address is important in helping me decide whether I actually WANT to contact him, and thus let him have my e-mail address. If Clark "flips the switch" it might actually cause more problems than it solves.
Adam.
PS. I had a similar problem with VBC sending unsolicited e-mails a couple of years ago, but when I never replied he stopped sending them.

@thierry, yes of course I will block them, but the annoying thing is that I have to do something against this kind of advertissement and that these people have the rudeness to commit such, the work is on my part and I never asked for it.
@olivier, yes Li Jinke is one of those 5 Gentlemen. If someone I once dealt with sends me PERSONNALY some interesting offer it is of course ok, I also have one of those mailing lists that I do follow out of my own interest. What I dislike is that these people here think "hey I am gonna be smart and randomly spam my fellow collectors" by just adding names to a list they compile from the web.
@ Clark, thank you for looking this up. The suggestion to hide the emails completely may unfortunately, as I see now, result in more problems than advantages. All I can ask for is a polite behaviour towards your fellow collectors which seems for some people not self-evident.

Claude, I do not know what business you are in, but when you are on the sales side, any potential adress is good to take, and now with internet and emails, I often do the same as the people you complain about. Me too, I don't like to receive so many unwanted mails, but it is so simple to block them ... On the contrary, if someone show up to offer you the insect you have been dreaming for a long time, I am pretty sure that you will not blame him A+, Michel

The poll shows that nobody wants email addresses hidden from classified ads. Nobody objects if somebody uses their email address gleaned from an ad to personally email them to discuss mutual interests or with offers or requests. It's when they're added to a mailing list which sends out bulk lists and offers that people object. It's happened to me a few times and it's very annoying.
The best thing would be to show these people that it's actually counter-productive to do this. I would never buy anything from an unsolicited list and immediately block any further missives from such people. Maybe it should be made clear somewhere in the Insectnet constitution that it is recommended that users block people doing this, than maybe they wouldn't bother.
