I am in the process of applying to the University of Florida as a transfer student (from a Florida community college) with an AA. I intend to major in entomology and I was wondering whether anybody had any kind of an idea regarding my odds of acceptance. I currently have an overall GPA of 3.5 with a GPA of over 3.8 for my most recent semester. I have been active in student government, participated in three different college committees, founded my community college's first Biology Club, and generally been a very active student. From what I have read UF is highly selective and a 3.5 GPA is considered average when considering prospective students. So what say you? Think I have a shot as far as my GPA and campus activity are concerned?
On a second note, it has come to my attention that, having completed an AA degree, Florida state law guarantees acceptance to a Florida state college or university for transfer students. Seeing whereas no other state college or university in Florida offers a degree in entomology, does this by any chance mean that UF HAS to accept me? I really would prefer to not get admitted simply because they have to, but it would be better than not getting admitted and having to go to an out-of-state college or university that will ultimately be more expensive.
Anyway, its nearly 5:00 am here and I think that I should stop losing sleep over this. Your thoughts are appreciated.
