I am curious to know if auction sniper is frequentky used on ebay. I discovered it recently and i am satisfied by it.
ps : an auction sniper is a kind "computer robot" (software !) that will bid for you (you can choose how many seconds before the end, how many times, etc...). this allow to bid without being present behind your computer (with other advantages as to not be attempted to put too high value, to decide some parameters, etc....). It is legal ! You can find a lot of them via google or any other research motor.

Given the fact that these programms exist since several years and I have never used one I would say "no". I also don't think that other people use it that much because most bids randomly vary from 20 seconds -10 seconds before the auction ends.

"... 20 seconds -10 seconds before the auction ends..."
what kind of internet do you have in luxembourg ? here we have highspeed internet (the lap you gave is for something by satellite or G3 technic or .... a commodore 64)
anyway "auction sniper" has highspeed lines and worked with reliable material (they just not garantee the result if you choose a lap time of 7 sec despite the default lap proposed is 5 sec that is highly secure)

Yes, I've used "JustSnipe" for years. When one lives in the country, the Internet can be moody. When I'm after something awesome, the last thing I need is issues here at home.

Luxembourg recently changed to fibre connections, the best available at the moment is 100mbit/s. We are currently investing a lot into internet infrastructure and attract some major companies, paypal, amazon, eBay, they are holding their European offices in Luxembourg and guess who is happy when people buy on these sites? ME ;D *delicious taxes* Anyway, what I suggested is that RANDOMLY 20-10 seconds before end looks like there is humans at work that want to place their bid the closest to ending possible and that it is not programms that bid, otherwise you would regularly have several bids incoming at something like 5s or 1s before end. I have watched all my auctions to see when the last bids come because I wanted to know if many people do try to be the last one to bid or not.

in recent bids, i see that there is an increasing of bids done less than 10 sec (usually a few) before the end ! One of the reason why I look for an auction sniper ! the other main reason is that I don't have to be behind the computer to bid and program a night for that ! very useful !

I often have to use it because of the time differences between Australia and the civilised world... I am too old and ugly to get up at 3am to bid, but I did in the past...
I usually set it at 4 seconds and have never had a placement failure...

I usually set it at 4 seconds and have never had a placement failure... Barry I've never used a sniping tool but have no moral objections to their use...in fact I think I'll do an internet search and see what I can find. Baz - I've also had enough at making sure I'm up at daft o'clock in the morning to place a last minute bid only to be outbid a few seconds before the auction ends (it isn't you is it! ). I take your comments as a recommendation and hopefully can catch up on my beauty sleep! Simon

I place my last bid manually in the last 10 seconds. If I lose it means I was not meant to win
If you place your final bid the day before it gives everyone else 1 day to decide if they want to bid higher
But those sniper programs cannot know another person's hidden maximum bid, right? (meaning you will still lose with a sniper program if your bid isn't high enough)

I hate those auction snippers !!! They have killed all the pleasure on Ebay... + it is a bad thing for sellers as it decreases final prices. Ebay should ban it as it also decrease their revenues.
But I fully understand those who use it as it is very efficient !

How should they ban it These programs are made by 3rd party developpers, reCaptcha for each eBay bid wouldn't be fun either. I see that more people use them than I believed, so I was wrong. Interesting topic. p.S. I place my bid manually in the last seconds, it's the thrill about bidding

So my question would be - if a bunch of bidders are using a sniping program, which sniper wins?

the best offer ... as for any system of bidding !
I would like to add that when I wish an insect ... I use the best method to get it ! To bid on ebay is not so fun for me ... the most important is to win what I wish not to find a new hobby !

But I fully understand those who use it as it is very efficient ! Personnally, my pleasure on Ebay is to win the item I have noticed amongst the millions of items offered for sale ! The best way to get it is a sniper ... I started with ebay in 2003, and at that time snipers did exist, but were difficult to find ! I only got mine since 2005, and then I could almost get anything I was looking for, but obviously you have to put your best offer ... I think that what killed the fun on ebay is the "buy it now" option, and the fact that the website is changing to often with the categories of items being moved all the time, and the search engines that have been changed recently. I use to buy nearly 10 items a day at one time, and now it is less than 10 per month ... A+, Michel
