Hello, I would like to ask if anybody knows a source where I can buy cardboard packaging for beetles already finished ? ( cardboard with cotton with paper and plastic wrap attached on top)
If there is not a source for this already finished product, does anybody know where I could get large sheets for the transparent plastic top and what material is best to use for ? ( I used in the past plastic bags for freezing from the shop but there was logos printed on so that I could not use too much of the bag)
Thx for any help.
p.S. Anyone got a good source for +-5 mm high cotton sheets?

Why do you want to find ready made packaging? All you have to do is go and find a stationary shop and you can find everything you want in there, ie cardboards and clear cellophane for wrapping books....... They are a bit more easier to find in Asia and cost next to nothing. I normally get all my cellophane when I'm traveling and collecting in Asia once a year. 10 sheets cellophane will least me one or two years.
I personially don't like at all using cotton when packaging beetles because tarsus breaks much more easier when they moved inside the packaging, especially during posting. Tarsus get much more easier caught on cotton and break off. I prefer just using toilet paper because lass likely for the trasus to get caught on.

It is not about the supplies themself, I found yesterday very cheap cotton wool myself. I also used to make the packages from "garbage" from my home like using the cardboard packaging of pizza's and using the cellophane off chocolate packages. It worked great and costed nothing additionally to the stuff I buy anyways...
My problem is about time, I am currently finishing my university degree and will be engaged in a lot of work soon. If I want to continue on collecting stuff during that time I must pack it well and be very organized, it will also need to be packed well as I will probably store most of it away for years until I have the time for mounting.

Sounds like it's not packaging you want, you need someone to package for you. ;D ;D ;D

Any thin ply cardboard boxes, cut up into squares, ie. shoe boxes, can be used or bought in office supply stores. Sheet cotton can be bought in most stores. I use plastic from record sleeve covers. The other option, use Lepidoptera envelopes and store the beetles in tupperware.

Question is still open, I do not have packing supplies nor a plastic cover source after nearly 2 months passed. ( record sleeve is not an option as I do not buy that much records, or can one buy these separate? )

Claude - I'm going to try something new this collecting season. You can by poly tubing of different widths & then cut them to the lengths you need & seal them or staple to cardboard. You can usually get this at office/shipping supply stores & I think you can get it on Ebay as well. Here's a link to show you what I'm talking about. You can also buy the cardboard sheets from here as well. www.uline.com/BL_2106/3-Mil-Poly-Tubing?keywords=3+Mil+Poly+TubingHope this will at least give you or others some ideas. Charlie

This is a genuine idea Charlie!! Thank you for sharing it, there might be some problems in realising this idea in the field as I wanted but it definately is something one can work on.
Thank you very much for sharing it.

I'll let you know how it works out in a few months. Collecting season in SE Texas should only be about 6 weeks away, maybe less. We've had a much less severe winter than last year & I was out on February 28th last year. Been getting some rain as well. Hope the season is productive after last year's drought.

I just use the A4 plastic file folders, you know, the ones you slide A4 paper into before putting them into the actual file. Cut them in half and you have two decent size pieces. very very cheap. thanks pete
