Every year the most common complaint I hear: My UV Light Trap or UV Collecting Light no longer brings the "Insects or Moths" like it did last year. My answer is "Change the Bulb". UV Fluorescent bulbs are designed to be stationary. The inner coating of phosphorous is applied Electro-statically. The phosphorous material stands on end and is held in place electro-magnetically. The constant movement of the bulb knocks the phosphorous coat out of alignment and reduces the effectiveness of the UV light emitted. To correct the problem, simply replace your UV Bulb with a brand new bulb. I replace my bulbs every spring and before I begin a 2 or 3 week collecting trip. I also change them out in mid September for Papaipema moths. Mercury Vapor are HID and Plasma UV coated bulbs with a hard cure material coating are not effected by constant movement. Attachments:
