I received 25 small bats which were killed by accident when they were trapped in a flue. They are a bit smaller than a mouse. I've read that a float in acetone in the freezer for 4-7 days followed by a change in acetone for another 4-7 days will dessicate the body slowly so that it does not shrink like a mummy. Anyone else know of a method of preservation other than a complete taxidermy?

How about freeze-drying instead? It works well.

I am considering that. Since I don't have a true freeze dryer, I could keep it in the freezer for a year. I was hoping to go a little bit faster than that. I know it is not instant. Ethy alcohol has been suggested but I think Acetone may be better.

Making the assumption that there is food in the freezer, is acetone a good idea?
