The picture below shows a series of Lucanus cervus males. The big male on left is 80mm in total length and was caught in Hungary. The next three are all from London. The second largest is around 64mm. In the UK they don't get much bigger than around 70mm generally although there is a record of a 75mm male. Notice that the male on the second from right has its adegus or copulatory organ extended. My son found this specimen on the road, it appeared to have been hit by a car. Johnny Attachments:
