Dear Thanos, kaly mera ! we saw Hipparchia autonoe in Kyrgyzistan. As far I know (using the the Tolman & Lewington's book), this species does not fly in Western Europe ! The picture is from our page : Papillons de Kirghizie : www.lepido-france.fr/2010/10/papillons-de-kirghizie/ Attachments:

I wish I had a Pound for every time I have seen this sort of thing, I would be a rich man. I used to contact the sellers and try to point out their errors but I found that most told me that 'An expert friend' had told them that this is the correct name; I was wrong and did not know what I was talking about; or they just ignored me. Very occasionally one would thank me for pointing out the error which was either sold to them wrongly or they mad a genuine mistake, but this rarely happened so I just gave up bothering in the end. Dear Jean-Marc kalispera sas !, Very nice photos as always ! Yes, H.autonoe in Europe occurs only in SE part (the nominate subspecies),but not at all in Greece ! In Kirghizstan, you found the ssp.orchomenus. Dave, right, most of the times I also accepted the behaviour that you described,so this is the reason I stopped contacting to point out mistakes, and posted here better.

there are dozens of such errors on ebay, in insectfair and in pricelists. It is a good way to buy rare things that are listings as common ones Do you also contact the guy in such cases ? (nothing to do with contrary ;D, my time is more precious than to try to explain such "mistakes"and help someone who in any case not listen to you anyway !) Thierry

Yes I had the same problem with a Chinese dealer who sells Delias lattivita formosana from Sichuan (instead of Taiwan)... It is a problem as lattivita from Sichuan are very common (worth 5/10€) and rather rare from Taiwan (worth 70€).
I told him many times he was wrong... but he keeps on advertising some D.l.formosana from Sichuan.

I'm not even certain some of my own specimens are correctly labelled... Some species are just so hard to determine!

No problem with mis/undetermined specimens Khalid. Just a problem with people who do not change their identification on Ebay despite they have been informed of their error.
