That's bunch of crock. I play a Gibson explorer and a Gibson SG Classic. if they think they're going to get my guitars, they'll have to pry them out of my cold dead hands. The same thing for my Epiphone guitars, since they are made by the Gibson company. I'm not breaking the law by owning and playing them. Jeff Prill

Well, I own a 2004 Taylor 914 ce L-7 grand auditorium acoustic with back and sides made out of Brazilian Rosewood. What are they going to do now? Raid Taylor Guitar Co. and check to see if, indeed, the wood was acquired pre-Lacey act?

I listened to an interview with someone from that company. They had a bunch of stuff seized in 2008 too. The US government has still not released it to them even though they have affidavits from the government of the country of origin that the permits are in order. I am sad that my government increasingly appears to enjoy causing grief rather than solving problems.

Currently, the only Gibson guitar I've got is this replica ES model I salvaged from the back of a fellow guitar tech's workshop alongside a few other guitars. I've owned numerous Gibson, but none were genuine. Real Gibson are rarities here in Malaysia.
Anyway, the only guitar with apparently illegal wood which I currently own would be my 1984 Yamaha SG2000S. Its freakin' older than me for Pete's sake... The fingerboard is Ebony. I hope they won't start jumpin' on Yamaha... Maybe that's why the new SGs no longer have Ebony fingerboards...
This is really, really bad guys... These are some major guitar manufacturers getting raided. If they get closed down, the very history and legacy of great guitars and musicians will be ruined! Just imagine a world without Gibson... I say this because all of you know how stubborn authorities are when it comes to something they think is right. They'll just keep at it till they get what they want. Since they have power, I believe they've yet to fail unfortunately... Right now, it seems what they want is Gibson's end. Probably other great manufacturers may follow into a similar fate as well...
Also, I can't believe that there were some people who commented in the given link who actually supported Gibson being raided. What the... Gibson is a legendary manufacturer of guitars. They have the right to make guitars from any wood they desire. Hands down.
Les Paul wouldn't have been happy about this...

So which is it. Are we pissed about loss of butterflies due to destruction of habitat (in this case Madagascar) or pissed becuase we can't have pretty wood in a guitar?
Based on the news I've seen, Gibson employees were in the country buying wood that they knew was illegal from loggers that had no permits ...
You can't have it both ways...
