Hi Politula. I was not able to find a single S. unicolor this year. I'd wanted to get a few for you and a couple of other friends, as well as for myself. Maybe next year. Cheers, Arrowhead in N.C,

I'll have to try that. I found a likely spot this spring but the deer ticks and grass chiggers, on top of the brutal heat and my breathing problems kept me from going back there. I mainly stayed in the yard with my lights. N.C. weather can be rough some years. Hopefully next year will be better. I did catch quite a few C. sexguttattas and there was a plethora of Calosoma wilcoxi. Never seen as many of those although the scrutators are always common. Happy Hunting, Arrowhead

Hi politula, I`m not familiar with the species you list , are they all beetles ? I do some pitfall trapping some seasons myself . But haven`t tried the bait trail. Sounds interesting . What do you use as bait? And how do you go about this method ?

Hey politula , Interesting so a soupy concoction is best , I suppose meaty baits will attract vermin/ predators. Have you encountered any wild animals at your bait/trails ? I`ll be heading out collecting in a few more months so will try your method.A friend from the museum says fish works well in pitfalls as rots and stinks quickly so I may add that to the mixture too ! Thanks

You have obviously earned, "the god of Scaphinotus" title. I live in TN, and plan to explore/hunt this genus. What key do you use for this genus, and what's the best way to get my hands on one? Many thanks!

Hi Tod. A poor year for my local S.unicolors I only collected one A- specimen.. My woods were off limits due to the crriminal activities of my my neighbors, who took it upon themselves to build a dirttbike disneyland which drew the attention of the local authorities, not to mention my fears of running into an illegal pot patch. I have a new area lined up for this spring/summer so perhaps the 2013 season will be more productive. Also I regret not getting to meet up with you on your U.S. excursions. Perhaps this coming season ? Cheers, Darrell /
