Larvae Identification Help

Hello, all! I live in Central NC and, this morning, my mother and I woke up to find swarms of these larvae all over our walkway from our driveway to our house. There were five or six separate groups of them and they were only traveling in these groups, not by themselves. We have never seen them before and have lived here for quite a while. Would anyone be able to identify what these are?

This strongly resembles fishes larvae!
I could be wrong: the picture lacks acuracy.

Was there any flood from a stream before these animals coming ?

Someone sent in a posting about a mass of larvae they found on the forest floor that looked similar to what you have, about a year or so ago. I did not keep up with the post but I believe they were identified as some sort of fly larvae.
