That is a very unique looking type of fly. Flies have only one set of wings which overlap each other when at rest.
If you look closely at the head you can see the huge compound eyes and the look of a flies head.
I do not know off hand the family of fly we are looking at because there are many, many small families of small flies.
It really is a very good photograph that you took; and perhaps someone here will know something more as to what family it belongs to.
Have no fear of it being a winged version of termite !

trehopr1, Thank you so much for the reply. I'm glad it's not a Termite. They are very light and fast movers.

Seek is the iNaturalist computer vision algorithm packaged into its own app.

Seek just identified Cat as a new world flying squirrel. Did it or did you just make that up?

Seek just identified Cat as a new world flying squirrel. Did it or did you just make that up? Dead serious. Cat is a mostly black Maine Coon and weighs about 15lbs. Took a photo, used Seek, which said Cat is a flying squirrel. In both photos, mine and that offered by Seek, the long fuzzy tail was The common attribute, I suppose that was the problem. Still, it’s been shown that Seek must be pretty good, so I appreciate the info.

That's a pity, nowadays AI should be able to tell cats from squirrels. When I remember iNaturalist is based in San Francisco, CA and theoretically they should be able to find plenty of good AI engineers, but I guess they can't win against job opportunities from big tech players or startups that have been showered in money. Anyway, it's impressive that it found the name of the little fly, otherwise we would have been left guessing for the species group.
