Matt, it would be fun to run into you down there. Joe, love to get a report as you're heading back home! -- Eric

I am staying at the Santa Rita Lodge, although probably mostly for sleeping in the morning . The generator is a tricky one. I am considering two paths right now. 1 -- drain the fuel and oil out and UPS it to the hotel and back and 2 -- just rent one somewhere (Home Depot as a last resort as that's expensive, but not sure of any other options). If anyone else has ideas other than these, help a Noob out.

Bill -- are you using photography light stands for the tall bulbs? I used a tripod last year but it didn't have enough height to clear my sheet all the time. I think that's sub-optimal (?). Was looking for something that would be a bit taller with the threads for the MV bases I have (standard Bioquip/Leptraps bases).

Chuck -- I have a trip booked to try for the last weekend in July in SE AZ. I checked in with Evan and a few folks, for suggestions and it sounds like a good weekend. Be fun to meet you and any others that head down there. It will be my first trip to that area, so it should be a blast for me with lots of new finds. -- Eric

Hey Bill -- I was looking at your setup. Did you make the light bar you used with all the 6500k fluorescent bulbs? Wondering if I should add something like that to my MV setup. Can you buy something like you've got there? -- Eric

Hi -- I picked up a pretty cheap 160 watt MV bulb with a medium base to use either with my 175 watt mogul base setup or separately as the situations warrant this summer. Now I just need a good cheap light base/rig for it. I have the Bioquip MV Mogul base for the other one and love that it connects to a tripod. Not sure it needs to do that, but that's pretty nice. At this point I don't have anything to screw it into (that won't melt) and has a cord on it -- a base, a cord and some way to "stand it up" would be great too. Any ideas or links to products around the web (Amazon, 1000bulbs, etc)? Thanks much!
Eric

I have one of Leroy's traps and it works great! The construction is top notch and far heavier duty than I myself could have cobbled together.
I use apples and bananas with brown sugar. Sometimes some apple cider. I usually let it sit in the sun for a few days in a ziplock until the ziplock is ready to pop.

I saw the Scorpions last year. Didn't expect the lead singer to be able to hit the high notes. He rested through a few songs saving himself, but then nailed a few high ones! They were awesome!

Saw my first Pieris yesterday (boy am I out of practice -- missed it) with the snow now melted at my house. I believe I read that is Mr Oehlke's cue to take the cocoons out of the fridge, so I'm following suit.

I know we've all read about the Monarch. Saw this article on an unlikely site (ArsTechnica) and thought I'd pass it along. Here's the link. Although this article discusses possible longer term outcomes, it appears to fly in the face of the population gains measured this year. Here's an earlier article about this year ( link). Eric

I had 25 inches of snow in my yard yesterday. A little jealous of you who already have nets out.

First a few caveats... I collect mainly a couple hours North of the Springs, near Boulder. Also, I do not have a lot of Colorado collecting seasons under my belt... That said I have not caught much in April to date. I have seen records on BAMONA noting Hyalaphora columbia flying in late April, particularly in 2012 which was an unseasonably warm and dry April. If it's a real early season, perhaps a few things might skew a few weeks early, but I think you're on the bleeding edge of the season.

A question I've been thinking of asking myself as I go to Sanibel/Ft Myers each year. Been wondering if trekking off of Sanibel with a light would work anywhere. Also love to know if anyone has had success that way... - Eric
