I bought a cheapo generator from Amazon -- one that recommends non-ethanol gas. I was told I could use a fuel stabilizer to help with the ethanol gas, or make a trip to one of the gas stations that sell non-ethanol gas... Check this site and ones like it to see if there is one near you. I am not an expert on this, but based on the research I did after I bought my generator, that's what I found. pure-gas.org/

Great stuff BugBuy3! What county do you collect in mostly? Did you catch most of them in August?

Rayrard -- Here's my Catocala from this year. I admit I didn't have quite as much time focused on Catocala as I'd planned, but I was happy to get a few new to me! I was delighted about the capture of the apparent C. briseis 3rd from the top in the middle. These are a combination of Catocala from where I collect the most -- Northeastern Wisconsin and Boulder, Colorado when I'm not working. I've yet to really organize the box... organizing boxes and finishing emptying my freezer will be a winter pursuit. Also, I've been trying to identify the two on the bottom right -- not a great picture, but I think they might be C crataegi (Northeastern Wisconsin, Vilas County). Lastly, a plug for Leptraps. I purchased a bait trap from him this year and it worked great! Using the Leptrap bait trap, my suburban backyard deck in Colorado even produced a decent batch of C. amatrix and a few others. Hi all -- I saw the note about the Cal Poly Pomona insect fair and it got me thinking -- What are the annual USA insect fairs? Are there any that have the range or scale of some of the European ones that I've seen pictures of on this site and others? Which are the best and why? Thanks for your opinions.

If anyone goes that can share some pictures, I'm sure many of us who didn't make the flight are interested in how the fair turned out.

I saw this today and checked the price... $6200 already with 4 days left! A fun idea to raise some money -- nice work Mr Metzler!

Vabrou -- what kind of light contraption is that? Does it work better than a sheet with a light on it for you? An amazing haul to be sure!

Few days of nothing in Colorado, then a C. amatrix last night. -- Eric

I've got my bait traps out at my house in Colorado (near Boulder) after a break for a couple weeks and am now getting at least a Catocala per day, sometimes a few. I've caught C amatrix here before, but I feel like these are mostly C. hermia - agree? They do have the broken (disconnected) interior red bar on the underwing like both amatrix and hermia. I have them on the board, so this photo is the best I have for now. Crossing my fingers I can pull in a few more species at my house! Eric

Hi -- I made it up to Northeastern Wisconsin in late July and caught a small number of Catocala in my bait traps. Would you guys help me confirm these identifications? I had this one as Catocala briseis. Do you guys agree? What would you see to differentiate it if different? I am looking at the white banding on the wings as relatively distinct for briseis? This looks like C. innubens to me. I looked at C. ilia, but the eyespot made me think innubens? What features do you see to ID this? thx Thanks for the help! Eric

I also recently purchased a Leptrap bait trap. Since July 3rd I have only had it up and operating for about 5 nights. The results have been pretty good. I have collected so far several Poylgonia comma, 2 Amphion floridensis, 3 Darapsa myron, 3 C. ilia, 1 C. micronympha, 1 C. coccinata (a new species for me), and 1 unidentified Catacola ( I will post the picture next week). I am in Southern Wisconsin. I am taking the trap and my light setup to northwestern Wisconsin this weekend. Do report back. Heading to Northeastern Wisconsin with my shiny new trap and MV setup in a week. Love to hear about your catch.

Clark - I have an iPhone 6+ the site pulls up natively very nicely -- it is both readable and usable. I get banner ads no problem (although I'm currently looking at a Match.com advertisement I don't really need). I often read the site on my mobile phone sans additional apps. I think you're golden on this platform. Not what you originally asked, but hopefully helpful. I'm posting an iPhone screenshot. Attachments:

Thanks for the offer, but as my trap is a BugDorm from BioQuip it's something for the future. I'll buy the next one from Leptraps to compare as they sound great!
