Just wondering if anyone here has ever collected together? Seems like it would be fun to go on a trip somewhere or at least collect locally with members located nearby.

There are a number of local Lepidopterist organizations:
Society of Kentucky Lepidopterist Ohio Lepidopterists West Virginia Entomological Society The Southern Lepidopterists Society (TN, AR, TX, LA, MS, AL, SC, NC, GA, FL and VA ) Idaho Entomology Group The Idalia Society of Mid-Continent America The Lepidopterists Society (World Wide) Maryland Entomology Society Virginia Butterfly Club (Mostly NABA types) Utah Lepidopterists Society Association for Tropical Lepidoptera (A Great Color Journal) Michigan Entomology Society
Google any of these names and they all have website. I am involved in most of these as a member and some as an officer. The Kentucky group (Where I live) are very active and have several field trips every year to collect. This year will be Black Mountain in late April, Yellow Bank WMA in June and Western Kentucky in early September. Great trips with a great bunch of Lepidopterists.
All of these groups hold meetings where you can meet others with similar interests. If you need more information, let me know.
Where do you live?

How about an Annual InsectNet Convention & Field trip? Now that's an intriguing idea.

In southern Arizona during the last week of July and first week of August you always run in to lots of other collectors at the classic spots like Pena Blanca, Harshaw and Madera Canyon. Sometimes it gets to the point where people start arguing and fighting over spots to set up traps, which is kind of ridiculous in my opinion since the area is so vast. Personally I've run into several other collectors on this board, and tons of other people as well down there.

I was talking to the manager of the Cal Poly Insect Fair last year. That is an annual trade show held in October in Southern California. He was talking about discontinuing the show because he is getting too busy to do it anymore. If that becomes reality I was contemplating starting my own insect fair in October or September. We would call in 'InsecNet' ...something.
Anybody want to brainstorm the idea? Leave your comments here.

How about "Insectapalooza" or name it to include other natural sciences so that it becomes even bigger. I don't think it should be called "Natural Science Fair" becasue who would come to the "NSF?"

I'm in Florida and am a member of Southern Leps. So far I haven't heard of group collecting trips through them though (just joined recently though). I would love to attend any insectnet trips that could be arranged. Also, here in Florida it's nice to have some other folks to collect with casually. My great dane is not very good at relaying which type of snake bit me to emergency dispatchers.

What part of Florida are you from? Down here in West Palm Beach I've never even met another insect collector. Which has benefitted me in some ways. But I'd still like to meet other collectors. It would be nice to be able to discuss insects with someone who actually understands what it is that you are talking about.

Clark, That is a great idea. Bedros Yes, Bedros. Eddy has winter covered and LA Musuem has spring covered, but if the Cal-Poly show ends there will be a big hole for traders in the fall season. Did you get the e-mail I sent you? I want to photograph your Hemileucas. Attachments:

I'm in Gainesville. I don't know other collectors per say either although I have several friends who are associated with UF's Entomology Dept. and the McGuire Center for Lepidopteran research who are excellent help with ID and such. They don't collect privately though, just for research.
Clark- InsectNet Bugger's Convention? There's gotta be a geeky pun in there somewhere...
