It's crazy to have two websites with 90% overlap in content and members, and links between the two.
Can't they just be combined into one?
Besides which, the other site mobile app doesn't have "recent posts"

I think you have to remember why the other site came into being in the first place. A handful of us got sick to the back teeth of all the bickering and arguing of a few members who have now thankfully either left or hardly ever post so we decided to have a forum where such things were not allowed, I think on any public forum you are going to attract certain individuals who have a I know more than you, my opinion is gospel etc, most of the European collectors gravitated to that site while a lot of the others stayed with this one, these are generalizations of course but it may be too much work now given the size and scope of each site, maybe our admin won't want to.

I am not sure that it is actually physically possible to combine the two forums, even if the owner wanted to. I think it would be a case of closing one or the other, with loss of all the posts on the one which is closed.
Adam.

When I first joined/became part of, Insectnet.com, I was overwhelmed by those who contributed on the forum. They, by all appearances, were well educated, very knowledgeable on the subject. However, some of them could be absolutely cruel. A sharp tongue directed to belittle those that responded. There was one in particular from the UK who was an absolute Rectal Orfice.
When the second site came on line, there was a mass exodus from InsectNet. For me, the departure of some was disappointing. Others, not so much.
There were also several others who I missed.
As for the current group on Insectnet, well, what can I say. We have shared information, learned many things and even laughter until I dampened my shorts. Some of you are friends, some new friends, some old friends. Of course, there is a moron or two in the current bunch.
I have learned a lot, you have made me laugh, and, I hope you have learned a thing or to from me.
Some of you have a sick sense of humor, which I, thoroughly enjoy. Also, I introduced some of you to one of the finer dinning experience, The Waffle House. And then there is the resulting NARF....
I have said enough, I intend to stick with Insectnet.

I actually have “ recent post” button on both forums right at the bottom of each one of mobile version.

The other site has a lot of good content that would be lost if the two sites were combined and that some members only post there or here and are quite happy where they are, its only just a click on a button to visit both sites, so why the worry. Its a big world web, so there is a lot of space for interest like ours. If you get fed up here, you can hop over there or vice versa and come here or do both, good to have some choice at least you have two forums to choose from instead of one. I can also clearly remember when Clark updated this site, without backing up the files, all that amazing content just vanished but that's another story and a rather sad one in my opinion.

may be a financial probem too ? Some moneys and energy have been injected in the two sites. Only the owner can tell us what it is excatly Other problem for users is that there are some more insect forums. If two are redundant, it is a loss of time and energy and less time to visit seriously one. It is at the image of our society : redundancy, waste, quick and no long-term view. May be that occupying 2 places is benefit than occupy one only (then a pure marketing problem) ? However, progress have been made as there are less "twin" posts or threads than at the beginning

Good topic, thank you.
If we would start from zero, I would recommend one single forum but reality is more complex : - Proboards told me it is technically not possible to merge the 2 websites, - some important members of the ICF don't want to be on Insectnet Forum and vice versa. - I refuse to close ICF or InsectNet forums for affective reasons, both are important to me. - Both forums recruit different new members, via Google search mainly.
This said, both forums COSTS me about 700€/each per year of Proboards space so it is not a very smart "marketing" decision to have both open... But donations help pay a part of these costs.
So for the moment, I am personaly convinced it is best to keep the 2 forums.

And I agree good Sir.
If possible, I will try my best to behave. But there are those times when that is impossible.

Thanks for the sites. I have learned so much over the years from these sites and the ‘historical’ posts!
