Does anyone in The USA currently have any Acherontia for sale? Eggs or pupae. They’re some in the UK but I’m not sure about the rules on shipping over spicemens from overseas as I’ve never done it. Thanks

Thanks It is very difficult to get permits to import live insects to the USA. I don't know whether it is even permitted to import live Acherontia at all, many species are completely prohibited, and even if you were allowed to import them the cost would be prohibitive. I recommend that you only try to buy livestock from within the US, wollastoni's suggestion would be the best way to source some. Adam.

USDA will not give import permit. Stock would have to be US origin.

USDA will not give import permit. Stock would have to be US origin. And in states like Indiana, can't cross a state line to come into the state without a permit... john

Importing into the U.S. the package will go through customs and the specimens will be found. They will either be destroyed, or sent back, and you'd likely be fined or depending oh what you tried to ship worse. However shipping state to state, no one is going to find whats in the package since they are not examined like they are in customs. Not encouraging illegal activity though and do not do it myself.

Also, the law just says you can't ship plant pests over state lines, or anything dangerous. So there is some living things you can ship over state lines like mantids.

On some occasions if a Postal worker thinks a package looks suspicious they can open it to look. Generally these people need to be authorized to do so. But it's almost a guarantee you would not get caught. Some things are just illegal, and they hope most obey.

As Leptraps LLC, I have learned how the"System" works. Words to never use on any documentation, "Insects" or "Dried Insect Specimens", those one words will get your package opened and inspected.
I ship Light Traps, Collecting Lights, Bait Traps, etc. I never ever use the word "Insect" or "Insects".
I have shipped product around the world without an issue.
And if you really want to see how fast a package can be stopped, opened and contents destroyed and a possible a visit from the government, write the words "Live Insects" on your paper work or on the container/package. This is if you can even get it past the clerk When you attempt to ship it.
Another "Key" word is Entomology/ Entomological. If you use any words related to Entomology. Your package will be inspected.
I almost forgot about the word Bug or Bugs. Even "Bugs Bunny" might have a problem.
When I lived in Florida a Post Office Clerk thought "Leptraps" had something to do with catching Leprechauns.

There once was a man selling them live on ebay in the Northern states (Minnesota I think) but he disappeared after a few months. Prices were $70 a pupa.....

How does USDA find out? USFWS watches threads like this and WTB ads and flags it to USDA then tracks down seller and or buyer then seizes records and or shipments then arrests people and has them plastered all over the news.
