Trogo- is a Greek prefix meaning to gnaw, as in the bird order Trogoniformes (see msu.edu/~mcelhinn/zoology/birds.htm), but I think Trogonoptera refers to the bright green on the wings (like a Trogon bird). Adam.

Definition of trogon : any of numerous nonpasserine tropical birds (family Trogonidae) with brilliant often iridescent plumage, thus referring to the beautiful colours on the birdwing.

"Definition of trogon : any of numerous nonpasserine tropical birds (family Trogonidae) with brilliant often iridescent plumage, thus referring to the beautiful colours on the birdwing." Indeed, but Trogonidae are named because they gnaw at wood to make a nest. Sorry, the link I posted above doesn't seem to work. This does: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrogonAdam.

And in the beetles: Trogossitidae the bark-gnawing beetles and Trogoderma the dermestids that gnaw on skins.
