I just recently learned that four new USA Catocala species were designated in 2015-2016 by Kons and Borth: Catocala aestivalia HT northern Florida; very similar to crataegi Catocala myristica HT Mississippi; very similar to robinsonii; probably also in central Alabama, northern Georgia, southern Carolinas Catocala slotteni HT Florida Gulf Coast Catocala ventura HT California
These species are very similar to previously "known" species, and in many cases DNA barcoding will be needed for positive confirmation. I am in process of creating species files for these "new" items. If you have specimens from your collecting in the HT location or nearby, you may have one or more of the newly named species in your collection. I will be adding links to the species files and from the USA list very shortly. Ricky Patterson alerted me to myristica (very similar to robinsonii), and I think Ricky will be sending me some images of that species soon. Bill Oehlke. We are not that far away for the beginning of the Catocala flight season in the southern states. Already Actias luna (Saturniidae) is flying in Florida and Alabama.

Bill, with the addition of these 4 new species designations; could you tell us what the present number of recognized species of Catocala ( stands at ) for North America. The last number I heard was over 10 years ago from Larry Gall himself and he said about 110 species at the time.
