This is my redesigned Joe Made light sheet. The frame is made from 3/4 pvc pipe. All the fittings are glued on and marked with tape (so I know which side of the pipe to pull apart and I don't lose them). I actually measured, marked and used a PVC pipe cutter instead of my usual hacksaw approach to cutting pipe. I made the frame in such a way that the pieces are interchangeable so I cant put it together wrong (I have to idiot proof my own work from myself)! It is light weight and can be assembled or disassembled in less than five minutes. The tripod is a Targus that I got from Walmart on sale for $13 and the light is a 160 watt MV. The light is mounted to a standard ceramic ceiling fixture on a outlet wall box. Fancy right?? This was made by a father and son engineering team that are friends of mine I work with. I had a little different idea to mount the bulb to the tripod but they were convinced I was going to electrocute myself so they machined a aluminum plate to attach the outlet box and tapped it for the 1/4 tripod mount wired it up and gave it to me. So far this thing is paying off in silk moths and at 160 watts its easy on the electric bill.

My light fixture is very simple. I have one of the bioquip Ac/DC blacklights. I bought a cheap car battery from Wallyworld(WalMart), and a converter. I have plugged my self ballasted MV light off it as well, and is good for short excursions.

I am going to get a 110 generator for remote collecting. I think Honda makes one that can be carried with one hand

Here is my cheapo light set up... MV and blacklight combo just blacklight and this is just made up of a car battery, a power converter, and a metal paint/drawing easel, and if available, rocks to hold the sheet and the easel down.

I'm happy with it, and it works. 😊

Nice setup but I would highly recommend adding a couple sheets on the ground to avoid smashing anything. I get many moths that rather land near the sheet than on it, one of my best being Thaumatographa jonesi

I just had a seamstress make a new sheet a few days ago. I'm going to use the old one as a ground cover since it's seen better days.
