Recently went on vacation in Mexico and saw some Anartia jatrophae near the hotel. I was reading more about them and saw on the BoA website that the subspecies there is "luteipicta" (Fruhstorfer 1907). However, more googling leads to the alternate spelling "luteopicta" (1942 paper by Munroe for example). Does anyone have access to the original 1907 paper and can clarify the correct spelling? I'm leaning toward the latter as luteo means yellow, and probably is referring to the relative greater amount of yellow on the hindwings. Thanks in advance!

luteopicta is an incorrect spelling of the previously described luteipcta (Frushstorfer) and it is not available taxonomically. Just to point out that the distinction of ssp in jatrophae do not make a lot of sense, specially for continental populations. Specialists in the genus, as Aiello, recommend not to use them.

Thanks for the info. I did read another paper (can't remember off hand) which said the same thing - the mainland jatrophae is so variable that you basically can't separate any of the subspecies. I don't know too much about this genus and a lot of my info so far has come from the BoA website (imperfect, but pretty good).
