Perhaps the white female Pieris brassicae thinks your white trainer is worthy of investigation and is another butterfly. Nice images

"just back from one week in Andalusia"
Look forward to getting my G Meeki soon then lol. Lovely pics Robert, it just reminds me in freezing England that there is life elsewhere.

Zerynthia rumina in January ? The earliest individuals are given the end of February! As far I know and according the entomological literature.

yes the Zernythia rumina have been flying already mid january and havent been anymore very fresh.I took the Pictures of them in the old Botanical Garden of Malaga. All butterflies I have seen have been flying in low numbers, probably the pupaes have been on places where the sun was shining almost all day Long and thats why they emerged so early. Michel Tarrier has seen some other species flying this january in Andalusia like Papilio machaon and fresh Charaxes jasius on the coast near Nerja Robert

I regularly go to Nerja in the winter and in most years I see Z. rumina flying in January. I've also seen P. machaon up in the hills above Frigiliana on New Year's Day more than once. I once counted 18 species flying on New Year's Day, and that was just sitting outside a restaurant at lunchtime watching what was flying past.

Hi Bob I must have missed you this time in Nerja, have been at a nice small coffee in the town and many english and dutch guests have been there and enjoying the sun .Prices there have been quiete low compared with other places near Malaga. Am planning to move maybe in one year to Andalusia (probably to Estepona)that was the reason why I spend a week around Malaga. The climate down there will be good to breed Tropical butterflies :-)
