Greetings fellow Butterfly lovers. I have a question about the locality of P epenetus. I purchased a specimen from a dealer in Germany and the collection data reads as follows: abra poculla, Lambayeque, 1800m, Peru. The specimen is a beautiful female. When I searched for information on P epenetus on the internet I can only find that the Butterfly occurs in Ecuador. I have found no mention at all of Peru. I am deferring to the experts on this board to perhaps shed some light for me?

I have a pair from "South Ecuador" sadly the only data, I can not find any info either about them occurring in Peru but I'll leave it to the "Papilio guru" to inform us, he may be miles away from Ecuador, being in Chiang Mai, but his knowledge is without doubt worldwide.

Yes we indeed should start referring to Mr Cotton as "the guru", his knowledge is staggering and we are lucky to have him contribute on here, just a pity about his football team being DOOMED.

I think we have had enough success over the last 25 years so we can have a season off, we will have a few seasons off mind unless we get rid of Moyes in the summer, its back to good old 1974 with this guy.

P. epenetus is indeed found in the far north of Peru. Having long been known from Ecuador, the Peruvian population is a fairly recent discovery (in the past 20 years maybe); I too have a specimen from Lambayeque. I don't know many details, maybe Maurizio or Tomaso would know more.

Bob, thanks for the information. This is a reputable dealer so I did not think it was bogus data. I would be interested to know just how scarce P epenetus is.

I would rather I wasn't referred to as "the guru", just Adam will be fine.  Anyway, sorry I was slow to reply in this thread, I had a football match to watch as well as my normal nightly duties of looking after my Papilio pupae and emerging adults. Bob is correct (of course), P. epenetus does occur in far northern Peru near the Ecuador border, along with several other Ecuador species or subspecies. Adam. PS. Dunc, I have very much enjoyed watching Moyes squirm this season, especially on a certain day in September when we won at OT.  Also we are not "doomed", as you may think. We got a point again today against Spurs, who are challenging for a Champions League spot (more than the Red Devils can hope for), and in reality only need 2 more points from 5 games to be safe with our goal difference. I expect Sunderland, Cardiff and Norwich to go down (unless that is you can't even beat Norwich!) with 35 points enough to stay up. PPS. Rich, My LFC brother will be there tomorrow as he's currently on a visit to the UK. I will be cheering LFC myself. |

Adam, I would not put any money on us beating anybody at home, our away record is the best in the league but at home we are pathetic, all teams do is sit deep, wait for us to give the ball away and hit us on the break, Moyes has no plan b to counter this tactic of course with obvious results, we did get you back the other week though winning 3-0 at the Hawthornes which proves my point about away form.

Waiting to see if Chelsea will be fairplay (I doubt with Mourhino as trainer  ) with Madrid and letting play Courtois ! Of course that Courtois is big obstacle for reaching final  between Hazard an Courtois, here in Belgium, the choice is impossible ! |
