Just wondering if any of you out there would be interested in doing an exchange of butterflies and moths at the end of your respective collecting seasons. I am not talking about anything rare or valued in monetary or sentimental terms here, just common stuff that you find in abundance around where you live that is rare or non existant in other countries where for the price of postage we can obtain material from each other at minimal expense of things that we have many spares or leftovers of at the end of the collecting/breeding season.

I exchange every year European stuff with the same 4-5 people ! I have asked the same question some long time ago and you will end up with a very small group ! What's makes me sometimes woundering if they are a lot of collectors on this forum....?? And I mean collectors that go into the field...... Regards David

Leps aren't my thing but I will be collecting a few to trade. Email me gyna11@hotmail.com. spend every possible day hunting. Will also be traveling a bit. Can definitely get you some specimens.

I'd be happy to trade with people too, I can get some pretty good North American stuff. (My email is alexjh@charter.net)

Just to point out that I meant this as an exchange for local material that is found commonly in your area of residence, what may be common in one country will not occur at all in others so we can obtain specimens from each other for only the cost of postage. Here in England, the collecting season is from late april to mid/late september (if it ever stops raining). Anybody who wants to know what species we get around here just send me a PM, our total may be few but they may not occur in your area.

Trading is difficult in the sense that both parties involved must have the exact insect that the other desires. Most collectors refrain from this and just use online shops or buy from other people that offer their specimen for sale. I also like to trade and regularly do so with a few people around the globe.
Well this thread actually looks like a good opportunity to build up larger series of common species. If anyone can offer series of common Lycaenidae like Polyommatus coridon, Polyommatus bellargus, Polyommatus icarus and Lycaena phlaeas (among other common stuff depending on where you live) drop me a PM. I generally collect any family of moth and butterflies in central Europe but only keep Lycaenidae and Noctuidae for myself.

That is the intention on my part, we have a large enough community here to do such a thing so why not.

Dunc,
I'd jump into something like this in a snap...if....sending outside of the US and importing into the US was not so costly and burdensome for those who desired to do it legally. I spend a lot of my free time collecting all over the states and think that sending a box of leps to collectors should be fine. My govt. thinks otherwise.
Sorry and sadly,
