Rich, do you know what happened to Chris? I got some great stuff from him years ago. Dave

Dave: Sadly he retired from his insect collecting business. We, need more collectors like him to get material from South America, esp. regions like Amapa, Goias, Santa Marta, Rio Caura, Tapajos, Belem.... John

Unfortunately, Chris Farrell was caught smuggling drugs and now he is in a Colombian prison. I knew Chris well, we collected together. I recently was told this information, which stunned me. This I thought was out of character for him. I knew him when he lived in Birmingham, England. He married a Colombian gal as I recall.

Chris was not caught smuggling drugs, but was accused and served 4 years in Milan Prison on money laundering charges approx 15 years ago. living in Bogota as he did at the time, it was a case of you do what they tell you, especially when your family (yes a colombian girl and 3 sons) are threatened.
His family sold the farm in Bogota and got out of the country to the u.k, i think he would have carried on but there was no chance he would set foot back in Bogota, his families safety came before any rare butterflies.
He now lives on Majorca after living 4-5 years in Madrid, i collected for 3 weeks with him about 7 years ago now around northern spain (Picos De Europa across to the central pyrenees) Also had 2 weeks before that travelling through the French alps collecting a couple of years before that. He loved the collecting side but he always told me you was either a butterfly dealer or collector, it's hard to do both, you'll never part with anything.
