I would like to ask - especially french collectors - something about Paris insect auctions.
I am sure some of you already participated in those very interesting auctions which are running time to time. I tried register on DrouotLive site to be able bid in some auctions in future, but unfortunately almost all conditions, remarks, etc. are only in french language even in english version of site. Even if I will be able pass these problems still I have some questions.
1. I found boxes are always present for public for some time to see them / because only very limited number of boxes are pictured in catalogue /. If I will find somebody in Paris to go there, will he be able to make photo of box for me or it is forbidden to take any photos from auctioned items ?
2. I partially understand there is some way to make payment from my location without be personally in Paris by help of DrouotLive system, anyway I did not find anywhere any remark if - in case of succesful winning - boxes must be taken IN PERSONAL - or if it is there also some service / payed of course / to send boxes to my adress after proper payment.
After seeing many interesting specimens there during last 1-2 years I decided I MUST find some way to be able bid there.
many thanks for sharing any your experience, Jan

Next auctions : le vendredi 15 fevrier à 14 h a DROUOT, par Rieunier & Associes, vente aux encheres Histoire naturelle ! Catalogue : www.rieunier-associes.com/flash/index.jsp?id=14992&idCp=93&lng=fr 4 000 or 5 000 euros, this a little bit expensive for me ! I hope they will sell some Pieris brassicae with a cheaper price. Attachments:

For the auctions and payment, you have to fulfill the form : see the attached file. I don't know if the is a sending sevice. I don't think so. I have some polish friend who bought in auctions and we went to Drouot to withdraw his butterflies boxes. Then we sent the butterflies to Poland. After seeing many interesting specimens there during last 1-2 years I decided I MUST find some way to be able bid there. Good luck ! Attachments:

Haha It is always better if the collection stays in Europe "or if it is there also some service / payed of course / to send boxes to my adress after proper payment." As far as i'm concerned there is no such service.

And for all members, don't forget there is about 25% Drouot tax on all items.

Boys, J-M many thanks for some informations. Unfortunately it definitly will be not be easy for me to find way. Olivier do not be afraid - I am Papilionidae collector, not Delias ;D. As for 25% tax, I know about it but really do not care. Let take a look - previous auction, lot 226, final price 300*1,25=375 Euros. www.rieunier-associes.com/flash/index.jsp?id=13790&idCp=93&lng=frContains : Papilio manlius 1m + Papilio aristophontes 2m+1f Situation now : www.aureus-butterflies.de/schmetterlinge/papilionidae-7/Alone EXACT female from auction of P.aristophontes for 900euro, what is I think absolutly correct price. But too much for me. In addition it is first time ever I even have opportunity to buy female of this species. Not mention female of P.grossesmithi, P.erithonoides, etc, etc, etc. It was very painful for me to see final results with such low final prices. Current auction, lot 17, 2 superb males of probably extinct Papilio lampsacus, expected price 600-800Euro without tax. I payed for my A1 male 2years ago 1450Euros / still my most expensive specimen in collection / and usual price is higher. All offers I had in past were higher, only seller which actually has it in offer is Robert - www.theinsectcollector.com/acatalog/info-11122.html , price 2250Euro without Robert bonus system. So boys I am really envy you have such great auctions, as well as best insectfair on world . Jan

Jan,
I think you can bid at any auction in the world by contacting the seller (Rieunier for this one) or the Expert (G. Lachaume) in advance in order to organize method of payment and shipping possibilities. I buy butterflies books all over the world, and it is rare not to find a way if asked in advance ...
The most difficult will be to obtain pictures if items are not in the catalogue !

Also be careful before bidding : don't bid before seeing a picture of the actual specimen.
Sometimes it is old collection, the collector died and his family took some years before selling it... of course you can imagine what damage dermestid can make during this time... Few drawers were full of Dermestidae in last Drouot sale.
Sometimes for difficult genus, there are some misidentifications. For example, a Delias klossi (about 250 € value) turned out to be a Delias nais f. klossi (about 20€ value).

mygos: The problem is that books are not so fragile like butterflies are. Butterflies can get seriously damaged while posting.
wollastoni: Not only in difficult genus such situation heppens. There were some misidentifications in apollo group too.
What id good ( in my opinion) at Drouot auctions is that some rare butterflies are sold cheap. You can get butterflies for reasoneable price.
